To all whom it may concern: I
Be-it known that I, GEORGE G. FRYER, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a certain tions and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In describing this lnvention, reference 1s had to the accompanying drawing in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views.-
Figures 1 and 2 are, res ectively, a plan and an elevation of a pre erable construction of my car. Figs. 3 and 4 are, respectively, a lan and an elevation, partly in section, of the support for the platform .of my car.
This car comprises, generally, a frame 1 and a movable platform 2.
The frame 1 may be of any desirable form, size and construction, is formed with a depending arc-shaped member 3, and is suitably mounted on trucks 4.
The platform 2, as here shown, is circular in form, and is so mounted on the frame as to be moved relatively thereto about axes arranged at an angle to each other. As illustrated, the platform is rotatable on a substantially upright axis, relatively to a support 5 which is journaled in the frame on a substantially horizontal axis extending lengthwise of the frame, said support being formed with a vertical bearing 6 in which a spindle 7 provided on the platform is journaled, and also with trunnions 8 journaled in bearings provided in the frame. Thus the platform may move relatively to the frame about substantially horizontal and upright axes.
Preferably, the platform and support are provided respectively, with annular bearingfaces 9, 1O encircling the base of the spindle 7 and the upper end of the bearing 6, and the lower end .of the spindle engages the areshaped member 3 and thereby relieves the tr'unnions 8 of some of theweight of the platform. Said sup ort is also formed with a rack 11, and w1t a laterally-extending arm 12 having a journal-bearing 13 at its outer end, and said platform is provided with a circular rack 14 preferably disposed on its lower side.

axes, comprise revoluble elements 15 and 16 I j ournaled, respectively, in the frame 1 and in the bearing 13 formed in the-arm 12 of the support 5, and pinions 17 and 18 carried by said elements 15 and 16 and meshing, respectively, with the racks 11 and 14..
A wall 19 is usually rovided about the platform, this wall 19 being preferably fixed to the frame and supported thereon in any suitable manner as by braces 20. A portion I of said wall is provided with a floor 21, and gate 22, the floor being flush with the platform when the latter 1s in horizontal position, and the ate being arran ed at one side of the vertical axis of the p atform.
iVhen my car is used with. a coke-handling a paratus forming the subject-matter of my a oresai-d patent, the coke emerges in a com pact mass or body from the coke-oven and moves through the gateway upon the platform 2 with a minimum breakage. The movement of the coke upon the platform 2 may serve to rotate the platform in order to constantly bring an unoccupied space of the platform to the gateway, until the platform is loaded, or 1f desired, the element 16 may be operated for this purpose. 'When the coke is discharged upon the platform, it is quenched in any suitable manner and is conveyed to the point of use by the car, when it may then be discharged from the car by tilting the platform by operating the element 15 so that the coke is free to slide from the platform under the wall 19. Although my car is applicable for use as a car for said coke-handling apparatus, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that it may serve other purposes.
What I claim is 1. In a car, the combination of a frame provided with an arc-shaped member, and a platform journaled in the frame and pro vided with means cooperating with said member for supporting the platform, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2, In a car, the combination of a frame, a support mounted on the frame and movable about an axis relatively thereto, revoluble means for moving the support, said means being journaled in the frame and cooperating with the support, and a platform mounted on the support and movable about an axis disposed at an angle to the axis of the support, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. In a car, support journaled in the frame and movable relatively thereto about a substantially horizontal axis, said support belng formed with a substantially upright bearing and an annular bearing face surrounding the upper ends of the said bearing, and a platform mounted on the support and having a spindle journaled in the bearing, and an annular bearing face at the base of the spindle for cooperating with the first-mentioned bearlng face, substantially as and for the purpose ecified.
4. In a car, the combination of a frame, a support mounted on the frame and movable about an axis relativelythereto, a platform mounted on the support and movable about an axis disposed at an angle to the axis of the support, and means carried by the support for moving the [platform about its axis, substantially as an for the purpose set forth. a
5. In a car, the combination of a frame, a support mounted on the frame and movable about an axis relatively thereto, means carried by the frame for moving the support about its axis, a platform mounted on the support and movable about an axis disposed at an angle to the axis of the support, and means carried by the support for moving the platform, substantially as and for the purpose described.
6. In a car, the combination of a frame, a support journaled in the frame and movable relatively thereto about a substantially horizontal axis, said support having a laterallyextending arm provided with a bearing at its outer end, a platform journaled in the support and movable relatively thereto about a substantially u ri ht axis, and means for moving the p at orm about its axis, said means being journaled in the bearin provided on the laterally-extending arm 0 the support, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
7. In a car, the combination of a frame, a support mounted on the frame and movable about an axis relatively thereto, said support having a rack and a laterally-extending arm provided with a bearing at its outer end,

8. In a car, the combination of a frame, a support journaled in the frame and movable relatively thereto about a substantially horizontal axis, a platform journ'aled in the support and movable relatively thereto about a substantially upri ht axis, and means for additionally supportln the platform for relieving the support, su stantially as and for the purpose described.
9. In a car, the combination ofa frame having an arc-shaped engaging-face, a support mounted on the frame above the engagingface and journaled in the frame movable about a substantially horizontal axis, said support being formed with a substantially upright bearin a latform mounted on the support and provi ed'with a spindle journaled in the upright bearing of the support, said spindle having its lower end engaged with the arc-shaped face pro-- vided on the frame, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
10. In a car, the combination of a frame v having an arc-shaped engaging-face, a support mounted on the frame above the engaging-face and journaled in the frame and movable about a substantially horizontal axis, said support being formed with an upright bearing, and an annular bearing-face surrounding the upper end -of the upright bearing, alatform mounted on the sup ort and provi ed with a spindle'journa'led in the upright bearing, and with an annular bearing-face surrounding the base of the spindle, for engaging the annular bearingface provided on the sup ort, and said spindle havin its lower en engaged'with thearc-sha e face provided on the frame, substantial y as and for the purpose set forth.
11. In a car, the combination of a frame, a sup ort mounted on the frame and mov able a out an axis relatively thereto, a platform mounted on the support and movable about an axis disposed at an angle to the axis of the support, and a wall encircling the latform, said wall being supported by ;the rame and fixed thereto, substantially as and for the purpose described.
12. In a car, the combination of a frame, a support mounted on the frame and movable about an axis relatively thereto, a platform mounted on the support and movable about an axis disposed at an angle to the axis of the support, and a wall encircling the platform, said wall being supported by testing witnesses at Syracuse, in the county the frame and fixed thereto, and a portion of Onondaga, in the State of New York,
