DECOY.
Application filed December 26, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANCIS McDoNALD OLIVER and CHARLES B. lVnsTooTr, citizens of the United States, residing at Savannah, in the county of Chatham and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Decoys; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in decoy ducks and the obj ect in view is to generally improve upon devices of the nature and produce a decoy which can be taken apart and reduced to a compact form for shipment, storage, etc.
The invention comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
Our invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a sectional view vertically and longitudinally through a decoy duck. Fig. 2 is a detail View of the bottom removed from the body portion of the duck, and Fig. 3 is a view showing the manner of fastening the cloth about the opening to the bottom.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the body portion of the decoy which is made of any suitable material, such as canvas, and is provided with a head B which is secured in any suitable manner to a block which is fastened to the body port-ion of the duck. The lower portion of the duck has an opening E and the cloth or other fabric of which the body portion is constructed has a puckering string H therein about the marginal edge of said opening, and K designates a removable hollow bottom made preferably of metal and provided with a circumferential ring N projecting therefrom and over which rim the marginal edge of said body portion about the aperture is adapted to be drawn after which, by tightening the puckering string, the cloth may be held securely underneath said string.

C designates a rubber inflating bag which is placed within the body portion of the decoy and is provided with a filling tube C projecting through an aperture in the cover or body portion of the duck and alfording means whereby the bag may be inflated. Suitable rings or eyes T projectl from the bottom under the forward and rear ends thereof and afford means whereby the device may be fastened to suitable anchorage.
By the provision of a decoy duck made as shown and described, it will be noted that the various parts may be disassembled and reduced to a compact form for convenience in shipping, storage, etc. By the provision of the bottom made of metal, the center of gravity of the device is lowered so that the duck will ride upon the surface of the water without liability to tilt or turn over, as will be readily understood.
W'hat we claim to be new is 2- 1. A decoy duck having a body portion made of suitable fabric and having an opening about its lower portion, a puckering string about the marginal edge of said opening, a head fastened to said body portion, a flanged bottom about which said edge of the opening is adapted to be drawn, and an inflating bag within the body portion of the decoy, as set forth.
2. decoy comprising a body portion made of a suitable fabric and having an opening about its lower portion, a puckering string about the marginal edge of said opening, a metallic dished plate having a circumferential fiange over which the marginal edge of said opening is adapted to be drawn and held by the tightening of said string, eyes fastened to said bottom, a rubber inflating bag mounted within the body portion of the decoy and having a filling tube extending through said body portion, as set forth.
