JOHN THOMAS wfNnLE AND REGINALD ERIC OLLERENSHAW, or n mnroan, ENGLAND.
' DEVICE For. SUPPLYING ADHESIVE FLUIDS.
To all whom it may concern: Be 'it known that We, JOHN THOMAS WINDLE and REGINALD ERIC- OLLERENSHAW, residing'at Bradford, in the county of York, 5.Fm land, have invented certain new and use 1 Improvements. in Devices forSupplying Adhesive Fluids;.and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. ThlS invention relates to devices for supplying gum, paste, or the like, of the known, type in which a brush or pad is secured to areservoir containing the adhesive fluid, with or without a cap or cover for inclosing the brush when not in use. Such devices, although equally applicable for office or other purposes where an adhesive fluid is em ployed, are particularly useful. in connection with the attachment of patterns of cloth or other material to pattern cards.
The rincipal object of our invention is to obtam an even distribution of the adhesive fluid. i
According to our invention the brush or pad which may be in the form of a rounded oblong of rubber or other suitable material, (is spht lon itudinally and serrated across the slit or ivision inorder to permit of a.
sufiiciently free flow of the adhesive fluid upon the brush being ap lied with a slight pressure upon the artic e intended to be coated with such. fluid. The reservoir may be in the form of a brush handle, to which the brush or padcan readily be secured by a 'screw, bayonet joint, or other suitable means.
. 'In the accompanyin drawings, we have illustrated examples 0 the appllcation of 40 this invention.
Figures 1 and 2 represent the device ready 1 for use, and Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are details of one half of the brush or pad. Figs. 6 and 7 show a slightly modified form, the upper portion being shown in central vertical section. r l
Letter a indicates the reservoir, which may' Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed January 26, 1909. Serial No. 474,342.

" be made of thin metal; I) thehollow metal head, which may be attached to the reservoir a by a screw thread (Figs. 1 and 2) a bayonet joint (Figs. 6 and 7) or in other suitable manner; 0 is the brush or pad of rubber or other suitable material, here shown as consisting of two halves having channels, grooves or recesses d in their 0 posing faces. The cap 6 (shown in section in Figs. 6 and 7 may be sprung on over the projections f. Arubber washer 9 indicated in Fig. 1, may be confined between an annular ledge in the head I) and the top' of the screw thread on the'part a.
The reservoir a having head 6 replaced in ositlon, the cap e removed, and the device inverted, the fluid passes down thechannels d. On the brush being now applied with slight. pressure and drawn across the surface to be coated, the two parts of the brush or pad separate slightly, and permit the escape of a suitable quantity of the fluid, which is evenly distributed by the action of the serrations at 0 On the device being laid down, or temporarily out of use, the reclosing of the two parts of the pad 0 prevents leakage of the fluid.
. We claim as our invention nation, with a reservoir for the fluid, of-two blocks of elastic material secured side by side at one end portion of the reservoir, said blocks having channels for the fluid whlch extend partway. alon their meeting faces, and said blocks having also serrations at their ends beyond the outer ends of the said channels, the inner ends of the said channels being arranged in communication with the said reservolr.
