HANDSAW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 21, 1908.
Patented Sept. 14, 1909.
Serial No. 463,868.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we, EDWARD WICKE and FRED DARK, citizens of the United States, residing at Kalamazoo, county ofKalamazoo, and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Handsaws, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in hand saws.
The main objects of this invention are: First, to provide in a hand saw an improved adjustable handle which may be adjusted to either side or into alinement with the blade. Second, to provide in a hand saw an improved adjustable handle which may be quickly adjusted, and is very rigid and durable.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
Ve accomplish the objects of our invention by the devices and means describedin the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the yfeatures of our invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a structure embodying the features of our invention. Fig. 2 is a detail plan view thereof, the handle being shown adjusted to one side of the blade, and its alinement adjustment being indicated by dotted lines. Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical section taken on a line corresponding to the broken line 3-3 of Fig. 2, the links being partially shown in full lines. Fig. 4 is a detail horizontal section taken on a line corresponding to the broken line 4 4 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of one of the links 14.
In the drawing, similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, the blade 1 illustrated is of the common construction. The handle 2 is adjustably connected to the blade, so that it may be offset therefrom, or -adjusted into alinement, as is illustrated in the The connection for the clip to the handle preferably comprises apair of links 3, which are connected to the blade by means of a pair of clip plates 4, having overlapped, perforated ears 5 and 6, at their rear ends.A The ears 5 are provided with inclined notches 7, adapted to receive the inclined lugs 8, on the links 3. These links are provided with o'set perforated ears 9, adapted to receive the clamping bolts 10, which is provided with suitable nuts 11, on their upper ends, the nuts being preferably thumb or wing nuts. 0n the handle shank 12, is a pair of clip plates 13, having notches 14 therein to receive the lugs 8, on the links. These notches are also perferably inclined. By thus forming and arranging the parts, the handle can be quickly secured in an offset relation to the blade on either side thereof, or in alinement with the blade. The notches 14 are preferably spaced on the clip plates 13, to correspond with the notches 7. While these inclined notches are very desirable, in that they permit the parts being securely drawn downand secured together, making a very rigid connection, it is obvious that they could be materially modified in shape. The adjustment is quickly made, as previously stated, and is very secure.
We have illustrated and described our invention in detail in the form preferred by us, on account of structural simplicity and economy, and convenience of adjustment, although we are aware that it is capable of considerable variation in structural details, without departing` from our invention, and we desire to be understood as claiming the same specifically as well as broadly.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with the saw blade, of a pair of clip plates arranged on opposite sides of the bladeand riveted thereto, said plates having overlapped perforated ears at their rear ends, the outer faces of the ears being provided with inclined notches; a handle; perforated clip plates having inclined notches therein spaced to correspond to the notches of said blade clip plates, sen cured to said handle; a pair of links having perforated offset ears and inclined lugs adapted to engage the notches of said blade and handle clip plates; and connecting bolts for said clip plates and links whereby said links are adjustably clamped in position to adjustably connect said blade and handle.
2. The combination with the saw blade, of a pair of clip plates arranged on opposite l notches of said blade and handle clip plates;
f links whereby saidV links are adjustablyY and connecting bolts for Ysaid clip plates and clamped in position to adjustably connect said blade'and handle.
8. The combination with the saw blade, of
a ,pair of clip plates arranwed on opposite sides of they blade and riveted thereto, said 1 plates having overlapped perforated ears at ktheir rear-vends, the outer faces of the ears being provided with notches; a handle; perforated clip plates having notches therein, secured to said handle; a pair of links having lugs adapted to engage the notches of said blade and handle clip plates; and connecting bolts for said clip plates and links whereby said links are adjustably clamped 1 in position to adjustably connect said blade and handle.
4. The combination with the saw blade, of
a clip member havingL inclined notches therein, secured to said blade; a handle; a clip member having inclined notches therein secured to said handle; a pair of links having inclined lugs adapted to engage the notches of-said clipinembers ofsaid blade and handle; and connecting bolts for said 2 clip members and links whereby the handle p is adjustably connected to said blade.
5. The combination with the saw blade, of
V-a clip member secured to said blade; a
handle;.,a clip member secured .to saidhandle; a pair of links; and connecting bolts for said clip members and links whereby the handle is adjustably connected to said blade.
6. The combination withY the saw blade, of
a handle; a link connection 'for/said blade and handle; and. clamping bolts transverse to said saw and invplanes parallel tothe plane of the blade, whereby the' handle may be adjusted into alinement with the said blade or to either side thereof.
7. The combination with the saw blade, of
a handle; a link connection for said blade andV handle; and clamping bolts transverseVV to said saw and inplanes parallel to the plane of the blade, whereby the handle may be adjusted into alinement with the saidV blade or to the side thereof; Y
In witness whereof, we have hereunto set our hands-and seals in the presence of two witnesses. s
