To all whom "it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM O. ROBERTS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vellston, in the county of Jackson and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Check-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to check holders, and particularly to those for use in holding checks representing coins of different denominations and which checks are generally used by barbers or the like, and has for an object to provide a device of this character which while not only being of an ornamental design will efl'ectively serve to hold a great number of checks in a compact manner and presentable to view readily so that the barber or clerk can conveniently gain access to the check desired.

A still further object of my invention is to provide a body revolubly mounted upon a pedestal, the said body containing a series of check retaining receptacles having means arranged therein for holding the uppermost check in each receptacle in position so that it can be conveniently and efl'ectively ejected.

A still further object of my invention is to provide a revoluble body having mounted therein a plurality of check retaining receptacles, and to provide the said body with a series of doors or similar closures so that the receptacles can be conveniently filled with checks when their supply has become exhausted, the said covers or closures having exit passages formed therein through which the checks are adapted to be ejected manually.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent as the nature of the invention is better set forth, and it will be understood that changes within the scope of the claims may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings, forming a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views :Figure 1 is a vertical section through the check holder. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section. Fig. 4c is a bottom plan view of one of the closures. Fig. 5 is a detail section through a portion of the revoluble body and a portion of one of the closures showing the manner of locking the latter to the former.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, there is shown a check holder embod in a base member or sun ort 1 from which rises at the center a vertically disposed shaft or post 2 provided adjacent to its lower end with an annular flange 3 having formed therein upon its upper face an annular groove 4. A hollow body 5 is provided and preferably carries an upper head 6 and a lower head 7 the latter having a passage 8 for receiving the shaft or post 2, and the former, as shown, is provided with a similar passage 9 disposed directly in line with the passage 8 and also receives the shaft or post 2. The bottom 7 is provided with a centrally located depending flange 10 which has formed therein upon its underside a groove 11 disposed immediately above the groove 4: formed in the flange 3 and is thus adapted to form in conjunction therewith an annual raceway for receiving antifriction bearing bodies 12.

The hollow body 5 has mounted therein an annular series of vertically disposed cylindrical receptacles 13 having upper open ends disposed directly in line with the top 6. The top 6 is provided with a centrally located polygonal member 14, and to the faces 15 of the said member are hingedly connected the inner ends of sector plates 16 provided at their outer ends with clasps or similar retaining elements 17 adapted to be engaged with an annular bead 18 at the upper end of the body 5. It will be understood that the sector plates serve as doors or closures at the upper end of the body 5 and are arranged to independently close the receptacles 13. The receptacles 13 each have arranged therein a plurality of checks 18, the checks in the various receptacles representing coins of different denominations. The receptacles 13 have disposed therein helical springs 19 engaged at their upper ends beneath the lowermost checks in said receptacles so that the uppermost checks are yieldingly engaged beneath the underfaces of the sector plates and in slots or exit passages 19 formed in said plates. The sector plates 16 have formed therein passages 20 which are disposed directly above the exit passages 19 and in line with the receptacles 13. The passages 20 are of course less in diameter than the diameter of the receptacles to prevent the checks from being crossed through the pressure of the springs 19. The walls of the passages 20 are preferably scalloped as shown at 21 to present a more ornamental design, and to also as previously stated prevent the discharge of checks through said passages as will. be readily understood. To prevent the checks which are disposed in the eXit passages from becoming displaced or casually moved, incident to a sudden jar of the base 1, I provide each sector plate with a plurality of springs 22, arranged to slightly engage adjacent to their terminal ends the peripheral edges of the uppermost checks.

A check holder comprising a support, a wrtically disposed post carried by thesupport and provided with a. horizontally disposed llange, a revoluble body removably mounted upon the post and provided upon its bottom with a depending flange, bearing bodies disposed between the first and second named tlanges, a plurality of hinged closures at the top of the revoluble body, said closures each being provided with a centrally located passage, each closure being provided with an exit passage, a plurality of receptacles within v the -revoluble body, and check engaging springs carried by the said closures and located in the said exit passages and adapted. to be engaged with the checks so as to hold them against casual discharge from the exit passages.
