Y specificati@ of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept.- 7, 1999.
Application inea october 20,19os. serial o. 458,605.
To all whom tt may concern:`
Be it known that .1, JULIUs ,SWANBERQ a `citizen of the United States, residing at Dixon, county of Lee, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Im-` provements in Hair-Combs, ofwhich the following is a specification. Y
MyV invention relates to improvements in hair combs, the object being to provide a reservoir in a comb adapted to contain hair oil, hair tonic and the like.
'A further object of my invention is to provide means for illin the reservoir with hair oil and also means or ejecting the same as desired by the user of the comb. And a further object of my invention is to provide means for closing the openings through which the hair oil is adapted to flow from the reservoir.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
With these objects in View, my invention consists in a comb provided with an inner tube or oil reservoir, concentric with and inclosed by a. tubular casing, in a means for filling the inner tube ,with hair oil, and in a rubber bulb attached to said inner tube adapted to ll the same with hair oil by suction and to force the same through the teeth of the comb when the bulb is pressed between the fingers of the user.
My invention further consists in certain details of construction and arrangements of parts all as will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,l
Figure 1 is a perspective View of'my improved hair comb in its preferred form, Fig. 2 is a central, longitudinal section showing a portion broken away, Figs. 3 and 4 are detail bottom elevations of the inner tube and casing, respectively, and Figs. 5 and 6 are transverse sections taken on the line m-w of Fig. 2 showing the method of closing the openings in the inner tube.
Referring now to the drawings, 2 indicates the body of the comb which is preferably cylindrical andwhich'is provided with a longitudianl bore 2 and a plurality of teeth, 3 formed integrally therewith. Each tooth, 3, is provided with a minute longitudinal perforation, 4, which communicates withthe bore, 2', and extends through the end of the tooth as shown clearly in Fi s. `2, 5, and (5.. One end of the body, 2, is sligghtly enlarged and internally threaded as at 5, and the opposite end is externally threaded as at 6, for purposes which will be described hereinafter.
Rotatably mounted fin the bore, 2', is a tubular reservoir, 1, adapted to cont-ain hair oil. The reservoir, 1, is provided with a row of minute perforat-ions, 14, which are adapted to register with the inner ends of the perforations 4, in the teeth when the reservoir is in one position. By, slightly turning thereservoir as illustrated in Figl, the passage ways from 'the reservoir to the teeth are closed. The reservoir, 1, is longer than the body, 2, and projects or extends. beyond the same at each end, and adjacent to one end said reservoir is threaded as at 7, to engage the threads, 5, of the body, 2.
- The projecting end of the reservoir adjacent to the threaded portion 7, is provided with anv annular rib or flange 12 to receive a fiexible rubber bulb, 13. The opposite projecting end is beveled or tapered as at 11. Threaded upon the threaded end 6, of the body, 2, is a nozzle, 8, which is tapered beyond the body portion terminating in a reduced extension, 8, upon the end of which is threaded a cap or closure, 9. The bore, 10, of,l the nozzle is tapered as at 10 to correspond with the taper, 11, on the end of the reservoir and fits snugly against the same to form an oil tight joint.
`To use the device the cap 9 is removed and the end of the nozzle inserted in the oil and the bulb compressed and released, which will draw the oil into the reservoir. The reservoir is then sli htly turned until the perforations, 14, reglster with the perforations, 4, after which as the comb is being used, the bulb 13, may be lightly compressed, whlch will eject the oil through the teeth. By
lightly turning the reservoir the perforations the saifai-,relytr vtilcaitefwahfhe @i ce tion of the soft rubber bulb, 13.
aving described my nventlon what I- claim as new, and .desire to secure by Lgt-f lio ters Patent, is:
1. In a comb, a body portion `-having a.
longitudinal Ybore andaplurality of teeth thereon each having a per oration communieating with said bore, in combination with areservoir rotatably mounted 1n said bore and provided with a plurality of perforations adapted to register with the perforations in"`said teeth when the reservoir is in one sition, substantially as described.
2. n a comb, a body portion having a 'longitudinal bore in combination with a' reservoir lrotatably mounted in said bore, a
plurality of teeth extending from saidbody portion 'and each provided' with a lon tudinal perforation communicating with said bore, saidreservoir being provided with a corresponding number of perorations ada ted to register with the perforations in sai teeth when the reservoir is in one posi tion, and a flexible bulb on the end of said reservoir, substantially ask described.
` 3. In a comb, a body portion having a longitudinal bore and a pluralit of teethformed integrally with`said b y portion and each provided with a longitudinal perforation communicatin with said bore, in combination with a tuular reservoir rotatably mounted in said bore, a flexible bulbupon one end of said reservoir and a nozzle upon the opposite end of said reservoir, said rervoir being provided with a plurality of perforations ada ted to register with the perforations in sai teeth when said reservoir isin one scribed.
4, In: a comb, a `body portion having a longitudinal bore and a plurality of teeth position substantially 'as dea longitudinal perforation communicating with said bore, one end of said body portion being internally threaded and the opposite end externally threaded, in combination with a tubular reservoir threaded adjacent to one end to engage the internal threaded portion of the body and rovided with a plurality of erforations a apted to register with the per orations in said teeth when the reservoir is in one position, and a nozzle threaded upon the opposite end of said body extending therefrom and each provided with cent end of said reservoir formlng a tight joint anda fiexible bulb on the opposite end of said reservoir, substantially as described. In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribmg witnesses.
