BOTTLE CASE 0B. CRATE. APPLICATION FILED MAR.16,1908.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM C. KBAUSE AND HENRY C. DORN, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
BOTTLE CASE OR CRATE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. '7, 1909.
To all'whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM C. KRAUSE and HENRY C. DORN, citizens of the United States, and residents of Milwaukee, in. the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Cases or Crates; and we do hereby declare thatthe followin is a full, clear, and exact description thereo Our invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts hereinafterparticularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed; its object being to strengtheniand provide for secure piling of.
0 en top and bottom cases or crates emp oyed for holding milk-bottles, filled or otherwise.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents a plan view of a bottle case or crate in accordance with our invention; Fig. 2, a verticallongitudinal section of the-same; Fig. 3, a transverse section of said case or crate, and Fig. 4, a plan view of a corner fragment of same inverted.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A indicates the sides, and B the ends of a rectangular wooden frame open at the top and bottom, said sides and ends being nailed together. To strengthen the frame and to provide for nesting of the case or crate with others of Similar make and dimensions, -we employ corner-irons C fastened inside of said frame to the sides and ends of same by rivets or other suitable means. Each corner-iron is a single iece casting and extends the entire der b that comes flush with the upper edge of the frame or slightly above-thesame, vThe lower end of each corner-iron is a rightangle flange 0 that underlies the lower edge of the frame, and in piling cases or crates the flanges of the comer-irons of one rest upon the shoulders of the comer-irons of another. This contact of metal with metal is an advantageous feature, as thereby the wood of the cases or crates doesnot become worn or splintered due to rough handlin in piling of said cases or crates, and the 0 sets of the corner-irons of one case or crate extend close within the confines of the one next movement.
iron flanges o a registering above, whereby accurate piling is a result and the cases or crates in a tier are held one by another against lateral or longitudinal intervals in said frame, and wires E, F,
that extend-through the partitions at different elevations. The partitions are sheetmetal preferabl galvanized, and'the wires are also prefera ly galvanized. The upper and lower edges of each partition" are preferably curled, and filling rods d, preferably of wood, are employed inthe curls to keep the same in the or ginal shape. The ends of the wires and bead-filling rods engage sockets provided in the ends and sides of the frame, and the partitionsa're provided with flangese riveted to said frame. "The partitions impart rigidity to the wires that extend through the same, and the case or crate as a whole is much stifl'er, stronger and durable than those ofv common knowledge for the same purpose.
In practice, the case or crate frames are preferably of a standard length and width, the number and arrangement of/the partitions and wires therein being variable according to the sizesof bottles for which the cells are designed.
We claim: I An open top and bottom angular bottlecase or crate frame, and corner-ironswithin the same having inwardly ofi'set upper projections, right-angle horizontal'shoulders at the base of the projections adjacent to upper.
edges of the frame, with which they are approximately flush, and lower outwardly extending horizontal right-angle flanges that lap adjacent lower edges of said frame; said shoulders bein opposed to the lower cornersimilar case or crate piled upon the one a oresaid and into which said corner-iron rojections of the lower box or crate extend In testimony that we claimthe fore oing 'we have hereunto set our hands at M' waukee in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisco 'n in the presence of two witnesses. 1
