LAMP-SHADE HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM V. R. SELT- ZER, citizen of the United States, residing at Ephrata, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp- Shade Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in lamp shade holders and the device herein shown and described is intended more particularly for use on a depending electric lamp.
The invention consists of means for securing the shade in the holder without the use of screws or other adjusting devices and consists of means for securely holding the shade while still permitting its easy and rapid withdrawal.
The invention is more fully described in the specification following, and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a plan view of my holder. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken through line XX of Fig. l.
The device comprises a body having an annular ring or wall 1 at its periphery and with the usual socket holding clamp 2.. The wall or ring 1 is formed with a series of retainers 3, formed integral therewith; the entire device being formed of spring sheet metal. In the drawing I have shown the device provided with three of these retainers. These retainers, with the exception of one of them represented by 3 are bent inwardly, at right angles to the wall 1, flush with the top thereof, and then downwardly and against the inside of said wall, forming approximately a triangle in cross-section and making a semi-rigid retainer.
The excepted retainer 3*, referred to above, is in the form of a spring clip or snap device. This retainer is also formed integral with the ring and is bent inwardly from the base of said wall at an angle of Specification of Letters Patent.

approximately 45 degrees to a point on horizontal alinement with the upper edge of said wall. From this point it is curved outwardly and upwardly to form an approximate semi-circle, letting its extremity come outside of the peripheral line of the body.
hen it is desired to secure a shade in the holder, the rib of the shade is entered in the holder under the projecting ends of the retainers 3 and a slight pressure will cause the clip 3 tobend outward and allow the shade to be seated in the holder, while at the same time it will securely hold it against accidental removal but will permit its easy intentional removal.
It is evident that inasmuch as there are no screws or other adjusting devices to be operated, the placing and removal of the shade is easily accomplished. It is also evident that the device may be used in gas lamps, chandeliers or other places where a shade is to be supported in either upright or inverted position and also that its construction is such as to adapt it to shades of usual or ordinary construction.
Having thus fully described my invention and its operation, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A lamp shade holder formed from one piece of metal comprising a disk-shaped base, a non-yielding vertical peripheral flange formed integral with said disk, a resilient finger projecting from said disk, and semi-rigid complemental fingers integral with said flange, each of said semi-rigid fingers comprising an inwardly extendlng portion and a rearwardly and downwardly extending portion adapted to be braced against said flange upon the application of pressure.
