Specification of Letters intent.
Patented Sept. 7, 1909.
Application Med October 29, 1907. Serial No. 899,655.
' mounting cards, photographs and the like.
The device constituting the subject-matter of the present invention consists of a sim le pocket made of paper, cloth or other suita 1e material, gununed on one side or otherwise constructed so as to be secured to the supporting member, whatever it may be, and having a narrow retaining space into which the corner of the card or lphotograph, or a projection on the particu ar article to be mounted, may be inserted. In mountin a post card, four such pockets are employed:
The specific character of the invention will be more fully understood upon reference to the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accom )anying drawing and. the scope of the invention will be pointed out in the appended claims.
In said drawing, Figure 1 represents a blank of a referred form, from which the pocket is to e formed; Fi 2 represents the blank partly folded to $11111 the pocket; F i 3 represents the same completely folded and showing the gummcd side of the pocket; Fig. 4 is a view of the opposite side of the pocket; Fig. 5 represents a book on one page of which four pockets are shown in position to retain a post card;'Fig. 6 is a blank for a modified pocket; and Fig. 7 shows the modified pocket ready for application to its A support.
In the preferred form of the invention, the blank A is elongated in form with a notch 7 cut in one side and having creases or foldlines indicated by the dotted lines 8, 9, forming continuations of the sides of the notch 7. The end portions 10, 11 of the blank are gummed upon the same side of the blank, as indicated by the shading, the shading being shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 in full lines where the m is on the near side of the blank and .in otted lines where on the far side. Although the gummed portions of the blank extend to the notch 7 and t0 the lines 8, 9, thereby leaving the angular ungummed portion 12, still, it will be obvious, that the adcated in F i wall of the 'thIS' um is moistened, t e pocket may be hesive might be otherwise distributed over the end portions 10, 11. In formin ferred pocket, the left end of the b' folded on the line.8 into the the preank A is position indi- 2. Following this the ri ht end of the b ank is folded on the line 9, t us completing the pocket B as indicated in Fig; 3. When in this position, the'overlap ping ends" may be stuck together, or not, as
desired. When thus completed, one exterior pocket is left unnned and when readi yscc'ured to any desired supporting surface, such as the surface of the leaf 13 of the book 14. The completed pocket thus provides a narrow an ular retaining space between its substantial ness of the material of which the pocket is made and the latter consistin of the overlapping ends lO,11,of the blan A. Clearly, as before indicated, the exterior of the wall 16 need not be completely coated with the adhesivc, although this is preferable.
several pockets may be secured in place upon the support and the card or other article then sprungor otherwise put in place; or the several pockets may be slipped over the corners of the card or the rojections of the article to be mounted, am the gummed shown in Figs. 6 and 7,. an elongated blan]? G having a single crease or line for folding,
indicated at 18, is employed. In this instance the end portions 19, 20, are gummed but on opposite sides of the blank, slnce the.
pocket is to be made by a single folding of the blank. The central ungummed portion is preferably of the shape of the projection which it is to hold. Thus in thecase illustrated, it is angular so as to form an angular pocket for the reception of an angular rojection, such as the corner of the post 031%?17. In forming the pocket D from ly parallel walls 1 5, 16, the former, consisting of a single thick- In mounting cards or other articles, the
surfaces of the pockets then moistened and the blank C, it is given a single fold on the line 18, by which the gummed portions 19;
20 are brought on the same side of the pocket and the latter may be readily secured in position by moistening the gumand applying the pocket to the supporting surface at the desired place, or, as ets may be slip ed over the projections of the article to e mounted and then the article and pockets may be secured as a whole to the support.
Obviously, in carrying out my invention, many additional alterations and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. therefore aim to cover by the terms of the appended claims all such alterations and modifications.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
1. A blank for amounting pocket comprising an elon ated member having a notch in one side su stantially midway between its ends, gummed portions located on 0pposite sides of said notch and a central angular ungummed portion defined by said gummed portions and having its vertex coincident with the vertex of said notch.
2. A blank for a mounting pocket comprising a member havin a notch in one side,
and gummed portions ocated on opposite sides of said notch and extending in each efore, the pockinstance to a line forming a continuation of a side of said notch, whereby a central angular un ummed portion is provided.
3. A b ank for a mounting pocket comprising an elongated member having-oppositely disposed gummed ortions near its ends, a central ungumme portion defined by said gummed portions, and two converging creasesand two onlywhereby said gummed portions may be folded over, said ungummed portion.
4. A mounting pocket comprising substantially parallel retaining walls united along substantially right lines so as to provide a narrow substantially triangular retaining space and an adhesive coating for securing the pocket to a suitable support.
5. A mounting pocket comprising substantiall parallel retaining Walls united along 'su stantially right lines so as to providea narrow substantially triangular retaining space, one of said. walls comprising overlap ing members, and an adhesive coating on t e exterior of said overlapping members whereby said pocket may be secured to a suitable support.
In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name this 26 day of October, 1907.
WILLIAM SCHAAKE.
