In order to sufficiently heat, by'mcans of a single apparatus, any thickness of metal, it IS necessary to vary thequantity of heating gas mixture and to adapt the width of the nozzle to the quantity of gas mixture then used.
This invention provides a device by means of which this object is attained in'a simple manner by making the oxygen nozzle capable of movement to effect the adjustment, according to requirements, of the annular opening through Which the gases for the heating flame issue.

The combination in a burner for severing metals of a casing provided with a detachable nozzle. contracted internally at the open end and means for connecting said casing with a supply of combustible gas and oxygen, and a tube Within said casing pro vided with a detachable nozzle tapering externally and projecting beyond the end of the casing and longitudinally adjustable in respect to the casing and connnunicating With means for supplying oxygen thereto.
