Be it known that l, JOSEPH F. MARTTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Sugar-Holders, of which the ollowing is a specification.

My invention relates to the improvement of sugar holders, and the objects of my invention are to provide an improved sugar holder or receptacle of simple construction and arrangement of parts; to so construct said improved holder as to combine therein, desirable means for su porting both domino or loaf and sugar in lmlk; to provide in conjunction with my device, means for readily detaching the sugar dominoes therefrom and for removing the bulk sugar as desired; to provide means for readily detaching the sugar holding sections from the main supporting body of the device and to produce certain improvements in details of construction and arrangement of parts which will be more fully pointed out hereinafter. rlhese objects I accomplish in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

ln carrying out my invention I employ a horizontally disposed base 1, which is preferably of a general circular form, this base being forme with an upwardly extending central stud 1tl and an upper side rib 1", which surrounds said stud at a distance therefrom. Seated upon the upper end of the stud, is the lower end of a central vertical tube 2, the lower closed end of said tube having a central opening therethrough, which communicates with a corresponding central opening in the base plate 1 and its stud 1?. The opening in the bottom of the tube is threaded to receive the threads of a vertical uniting bolt 3, which connects the base and tube in the manner shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing.

The upper side of the base plate has mounted thereon a slightly onical plate 4, the outer portion of said p ate bearing, as shown, upon the ribs lb'and the central portion thereof being formed with a central opening, from which extends downward a neck extension 4, the latter loosely surrounding the stud 1a of the base plate. Carried upon the plate 4 about the tube 2, is a vertical casing 5, the body of said casing being square orsubstantially s nare in cross section. The casingthus provi ed, is formed throughout the length of its body with corner projections 5, each of which is so bent as to form a keeper or channel 5b on the outer side of each face of the casing 5 and adjoining the corner thereof, each air of adjacent keepers or channels thus belng arranged at right angles with each other. rlhe upper end of the casing 5 is formed with a suitable cap 6 and said cap and the upper end of the tube 2, are surmounted by a detachable head 7 with which preferably engages a handle ring 8. On each of two opposing faces of the vertical casing 5, I provide a domino or loaf sugar holding member 9, which comprises a channel-shaped body having its outer vertical wall or face formed of glass or other transparent material 10. The open inner side of the holding section or member 9 is formed with outturned edge lips 9, which are adapted to fit and slide within the channels or ways 5b heretofore described.

As shown in the drawing, particularly in Fig. 1, the lower end of the glass front 10 of each of the domino holding sections, is at a desirable distance above the base 1. Suitably secured to each of two opposing walls of the member 5 at the base thereof, is the inner or lower end of a spring plate or sugar retaining tongue 11, the latter being curved upward and thence outward beneath the sugar holding section 9 and being adapted to form a support for thelower one of a plui tions 9, is a ca or cover member 13 of suitable form, sai cap being hinged at its rear side as indicated at 13"L tolthe adjacent wall of the casing 5. By this operation, it will be understood that the dominoes may be successively removed from the holder, and that as each domino is removed the next higher domino will drop downward upon the supporting spring tongue 11. It will be understood that a sugar holding device of the character described, may be produced in such ornamental form and of such material as to particularly adapt it for table use, although itis obvious that the same may be produced and employed in such sizes as will e more convenient for use in restaurants, hotelsand lunch rooms. While I have shown but two of the domino sugar holdersfand 'an equal number 0f soft or granulated sugar holding devices in connection with my device, it is obvious that a greater number ofthe holding sections might be employed if desired b increasin the number of vertical faces ofy the centra casing 5.

What I claim, is:
