I mm r v leg ll? flm UNITED STATES LEWIS HUNT, 0F WELCI-I, WEST VIRGINIA.
LAMP-CHIMNEY HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 29, 1909. Serial No. 492,909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lnwrs HUNT, a citizen of the United States, residing at VVelch, in the county of McDowell and State of West Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Chimney Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved lamp chimney holder for use in securely holding lamp chimneys on lamp burners and ailording means whereby the lamp chimney may be hinged to the burner so that it can be turned from over the burner when desired, and the said invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :-Figure 1 is an elevation of a lamp burner provided with chimney holding devices constructed in accordance with my invention, the chim ney being shown in section and in position on the burner. Fig. 2 is a similar View, showing the chimney turned to one side of the burner. Figs. 3 and 4 are detail elevations of the chimney holders.
In accordance with my invention, I provide a pair of lamp chimney holders 1, 2, each o'l which comprises a substantially U-shaped spring clamp, which may be made of wire or other suitable material. Each of the said holders has an upturned outer arm 3 and an upturned inner arm 4 to respectively engage the outer and inner sides of a lamp chimney at the base thereof so that the said holders fit astride the lower edge of the chimney. The outer arm 3 of each holder is provided at its upper end with a transversely disposed spring bar 5 which is bent in the required shape to cause it to fit snugly against the upper side of the cylindrical portion of the chimney, immediately below the enlarged, substantially globular portion of the chimney. The inner arm 4, which is longer than the outer arm 3 and extends upwardly to a greater extent has its upper portion bent as may be required to adapt it to fit against the inner side of the chimney and is provided at its upper edge with a transversely disposed spring bar 6 to bear against and adapt itself to the shape of the inner side of the chimney. The holders are disposed opposite each other and one is provided with a hinge 7 to connect it to the gallery of the burner on one side, the other holder having a spring clasp 8 to engage the edge of the gallery on the opposite side and hence coact with the hinged holder to lock the chimney in place on the burner. From the hinge 7 projects an outwardly extending supporting arm 9 having a transverse bar 10 at its outer end to receive and fit against the lamp chimney so as to support the chimney when the same is turned to one side oi the burner as shown in Fig. 2.
My improved lamp chimney holding devices are extremely simple, are entirely eflieient and may be manufactured at slight cost.
What is claimed is 1. In combination with a lamp burner and a lamp chimney, a pair of chimney holding devices each comprising a substantially U-shaped spring clamp to fit astride the lower edge of the chimney with its arms respectively on the inner and outer sides thereof, said arms having transversely disposed bars bearing against the inner and outer surfaces of the chimney, a hinge connecting one of said holding devices to the burner and a catch-to secure the other lamp holding device to the burner when the chimney is in place on the burner.
2. In combination with a lamp burner and a lamp chimney, a pair of chimney holding devices each comprising a substantially U-shaped spring clamp to fit astride the lower edge of the chimney with its arms respectively on the inner and outer sides thereof, said arms having transversely disposed bars bearing against the inner and outer surface of the chimney, a hinge connecting one of said holding devices to the burners and a catch to secure the other lamp holding device to the burner when the chimney is in place on the burner and an arm extending outwardly from the hinge and forming a support for the chimney when the latter is turned to one side of the burner.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
