The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'it may ooiwen Beit known that I, REUBEN HUnD, of Morrison, in the county of Whitesides, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and improved Guide-Attachment for Wagons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art t0 makeV and use the same, 'reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a guideattachment for wagons which may be operated by the driver, to control the direct-ion of the wagon, whether in a straight or ciuved course, and in going either forward or backward, but designed more especial] y for use when backing the wagon.

On the sway-bar, in any suitable way, I place a notched segmental plate, A, and to the reach, or any other suitable support, I pivot a lever-catch, B, capable of swinging into or ont of the notches of the said bar A; and for operating the said catch-lever, I connect it to a hand-lever by a link, D, or any other suitable means, and I arrange the hand-lever in a suitable position on the outside of the box, for reach by the rider, so that by moving it one way or the other, he Y may connect or disconnect the catch-lever with the notched bar A. y
A catch-bar, E, is provided to hold the lever G in any required position.
This device is very useful in times when it is desiredy to control the course of the wagon, especially in backing, when it is dicult for the horses to guide the wagon as required.
Having thus described my inyention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patenty The combination, with the sway-bar, of a wagon of the notched plate A, catch-lever B, handle C, notched plate E, and link D, all arranged substantially as specified.
The above specication of my invention signed by me, this 6th day of April, 1869.
