IMPROVEMENT IN IBINDING-GUIDES ron SEWING-MACHINES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER S. Hororrnrss, of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairficld, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Binding-Guide for Sewing-Machine; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, andexact de- Figure 1, atop view;

This invention relates to an improvement in apparatus for attachment to sewing-machines, for the'purpose of turning the binding over the edge of work, commonly called a binding-gauge; and

A is the plate or base by which the gauge is attached to the work-table, its inner end forked, so as to form a guide, a a, for the edge of the work.
Upon the under side of the said base is fixeu a gauge, (1, secured to the plate by a nut, f, on the bolt t, which extends through the plate.

" desired to adjust the upper gauge independently ofthe loweryloosen the screw B, and move the upper gauge to the desired position; then set the screw B, to fix the gauge in that position.
By this construction, it will be observed that the two guides may be set together, that is, in proper relative position to each other; then both adjusted, without disturbing their relative positions, and this in the following manner:
Supposing the position in fig. 1 to be the proper relative position to each other, and that it is desired' to retain that relative position, but in a position further back, turn the nut f, so as to clamp the upper guide between the adj ustiiigenut n and the said nut f; then the two guides are both clamped firmly together; then,'by loosening the adjusting-screw B, the two guides may be moved together.
I do not'wish to be understood as broadly claiming the arrangement of two folders or guides, .for guiding and folding the binding over a material in sewing-Inachines, as such, I am aware, is very common; but
What I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
