WILLIAM R. SANT, ORLANDO IB. COOPE R, AND FRANK PTCLAGK, OF HGGLOUD, CALIFORNIA.
Patented Aug. 24, race.
To all whom it may cmwern:
Be it known that-we, WILLIAM B. SANT,
a citizen of Australia, and ORLANDO B;
COOPER. and FRANK P. CLAOK, citizens of the United States, all residing at McCloud,in the county of Siskiyou and State of'California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scaffold-Brackets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Our invention'relates. to improvements in scaffold brackets and more particularly a metal one which is so constructed that it may be readily ap lied to or removed from its support and w en removed may be folded to occupy but little space and thus permit of its being conveniently carriedor transported The object of the invention is to provide a scaffold bracket of this character which will be simple, strong, durable, and com aretively inexpensive in construction an the use of which will effect a great saving in lumber.
With the above and other objects in view,
- the invention consists of the novel features ofconstruction and the combination and arran ement of parts hereinafter fully descri ed and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in.which Figure 1 1s a side elevation of our improved scaffold bracket; Fig. 2 is a top plan view;
indicated by the line 33 in Fig. 1; an Fig.
4 is a perspective view of the upright member.
of the bracket. I
Our improved scaffold bracket consists of an upright member 1, a top or supporting mem er 2 and a brace member 3. These members are constructed of metal and are preferably united so that they will fold upon each other when the device is not in use.
' The upright member 1 has a fiat rear face or edge to engage the vertical support and its iglpper end 4 is bent forwardly and outwar furcated, as shown at 5, to receive the inner j ortion of the to piece or member 2. The
y-at an acute angle and forked or biatter is ivoted in the fork 5 by a rivet, bolt or the li e 6 and its rear end 7, which is disposed vertically above the angular portion 4 of the upright l and which terminates within the vertical plane of the rear edge of said upright, is formed with-a depending lug or projection 8 adapted to enter a screw eye 10 or any equivalent device upon the su port to which the bracket is app ied. The ower I end of the upright member 1 has outer face beveled downwardly and inwardly and also flattened or enlargedfas shownat 11,
and formed with a vertically extending V shaped notch or recess 12 to receive a screw or equivalent pin or projection 13 u on the vertical support. It will be seen t at the provision of the notch 12 and the lug 8 enables the scaifold to be quickly and easily a plied to or removed from its support.
three members of the device are set up for 3inwardly toward the member 1, as will be readily understood. By constructing the bracket of metal and in the manner set forth, it will be seen that it will be comparatively inexpensive to produce, exceedingly strong and durable in use, convenient and easy to set up and take down, and that its use will effect a great saving in lumber.
Having thus described our invention what we claim is:
1. A scaffold bracket comprising an upright member having a forwardly project ing upper end, a top member secured intermediate its ends'to said upperend of the u right member and having its rear end a apted to engage a support, and a brace member between the outer portion of the.
top member and the lower portion of the upright member. 1
2. A foldable scaffold bracket com rising an upright member having a forward y crojecting upper end, a top member pivoted intermediate its ends to said upper end of the upright member, the rear end of the top member being adapted to engage a support, a diagonally brace member plvoted at its lower end to the lower portion of the upright member and a removable fastening uniting the upper end of the brace member to the outer portion of the top member.
3. A foldable scaffold bracket comprising a straight upright member hevin e notch at its lower end and its upper en bent for- 'wardly end bifurcated, it top member pivoted intermediate its ends in the bifurcated upper end of the uprightmember end having its projecting1 rear end formed with e depending lug, a 'ogonal brace member pivoted at its ower end to the lower portion of the upright member and having its 11 per.
end forked to receive the outer; ortion o" the top member, and a removeb e transverse fastening uniting the forkedn pper end of the brace member and the outer portion of the top member.
15 4. The combination with e su ort having a keeper eye and a pin, of it see; old bracket comprising en u right member to engage ort, a screw eye therein end it heeded p1n= 1n seid support end vertically beneath the screw eye, of a detachable and toldcble sceffold bracket comprising a straight upright member to engage seiid sup ort and formed at its lower end with e note to engage said heeded pin and at its upper end with e forwerdly end upwardly projecting bifurceted ortion, e to member pivoted intermediate its ends in t 1e bifurcated 11 per end of the upright member and forme at its rear end with a downwardly projecting lug to engage the eye of said screw, a diagonal brace mem- 40 her pivoted at its lower end to the lower portion of the 11 right member and having its upper end bifurcated to receive the outer portion of the top member and a removable transverse fastening essed through the birurcated end of the race member and the outer portion of the top member.
