Description

W. A. HUTOHISON.
ATTACHMENT FOR ICE CREAM GANS.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 13, 1908.
Patented Aug. 24, 1909.

I W woos UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM,A. HUTGHISON, OF BUCHANAN, MICHIGAN.
ATTAGHIEENT FOR IGE-CREAM GANS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. HUTCHI- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buchanan, in the county of Berrien and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Ice-Cream Cans, of which the folfrom one can to another, and used for the purpose intended, the device comprising a band which is adapted to fit in the top of the ice-cream can, with a wire or strip extending across the band, which wire or strip may be used to cut or scrape the'excess cream from the top of the spoon or device above referred to.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a top view of the device; Fig.
'2 is a sectional view showing the upper part of a can with the device applied thereto;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the modification.
'Re'ferring specifically to the drawings, 6
vindicates an ordinary ice-cream can. The
device invented by me comprises a band 7 made of sheet metal of proper size to fit outwardly as indicated at 8, to rest upon the rim of the can in which the band is placed.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug. 24, 1909.
,- Application filed November 13, 1908. Serial No. 462,398.
The band is made to fit snugly so that it will stay in place without other fastening means.
Extendlng across the band, at or near the top thereof, is a Wire 9 which is fixed at its opposite ends to the band by soldering or otherwise. This wire is preferably of less length than the diameter of the band so as not to interfere with access to the can.
In the use of the device,,after the icecream is scooped up by'the spoon or other implement used'for the purpose, it is scraped across the wire which will thus detachnnd dislodge any excess crea-niwhich will then fall back int-0' the can.
The device will be found particularly convenient/ for the use of-retail dealers in icecream. It may be changed from one can to another inasmuch as it is not permanently attached to the can. i p
Instead of the wire 9, a strip of thininetal may be used, as indicated at 10 in Fig. 3. However, the wire is believed to be preferable.
I claim A device of the character described comprising a one piece thin metallic band formed to fit Within the upper edge of a can entirely therearound, and having a project ing rim at its upper edge to engage the said can edge, and a Wire fixed at its ends to the band and extending across the same at one side of its point of greatest diameter.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my'signature
