PINTLE -HINGE To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRITZ MEYER, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Hanover, in Gern'iany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pintle- Hinges, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hinges, and more particularly to hinges for doors, French windows and the like, and its object is to provioe improved means for lubricating hinges of this type.
The invention substantially consists in constructing a hinge with a receptacle formed by a tubular extension of the knuckle, and with a valved orifice by means of which the interior of the said receptacle can be placed in communication with the interior of the knuckle, the valve being connected to a plunger or equivalent deviceenabling it to be opened by hand. This arrangement enables a small quantity of a liquid lubricant placed insaid receptacle to be admitted to the interior of the knuckle whenever the hinge requires lubricating. The lubricating operation can thus be performed without inconvenience and without risk of soiling the parts to which the hinge is attached.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is z- 1. In a pintle hinge the combination with the upper knuckle of a lubricant receptacle formed by a tubular upward extension of the said knuckle, the said receptacle having an orifice by means of which its interior can be placed in communication with the interior of the knuckle, a valve for said orifice and means for opening the valve by hand.
2. In a pintle hinge the combination with the upper knuckle having a tubular upward extension, of a perforated plate in said entension, a stemmed valve for closing the perforation in said plate, a knob on said stem, a cap for said extension traversed by said knob and a spring between the knob and the perforated plate.
