Description

A, DAMARIO.V FLUSHING APPARATUS.
ArPLIoATIon FILED JUNE so, 190:3.A

ANTONIO DAMARIO, OF IROVIDENGE, RHODE ISLAND.`
FLUSHING APPARATUS.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 1909.
Application filed .Tune 30, 1908. Serial No. 441,175.
To 4all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AN'roNIo DAMARro, citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence andI State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flushing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to flushing apparatus, and has for its object to provide an improved apparatus of this kind which is simple in construction, durable, powerful in action, quick in cleansing, and economical* using a small amount of water fori each flush.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which a central sectional view of the apparatus is shown.
Referring specifically to the drawing, 5 denotes an air-tight tank or reservoir to which is connected a supply-pipe 6 and an outletchamber 7 communicating with a deliverypipe 8. The outlet chamber is a casting 9 which screws into the bottom of the tank and has a diaphragm 10 formed with a seat 11 for a valve 12 having stems 13 and 14, respectively projecting from opposite sides thereof. The stem 13 projects from the back of the valve and is guided in a socket 15 made in a cap 16 which screws'on a nipple 17 formed integral with the Vcasting 9. Around the stem 13 is coiled a spring 18 for holding the valve to its seat, said spring bearing at one end on the back of the valve and vat the other end on the cap. The stem 14 passes through an opening 19 in the wall of the casting 9 said opening being provided with a stu g box 2O closed by a cap 21 screwed thereon. The cap 21J has an opening 22 through which the stem 14 passes, and on the outside of the cap, the end of the stem is engaged by-a inger 23 projer'ztingy from a lever 24 pivoted to ears 25 formed integral with the casting 9. 'Io the lever24 is attached an operating chain 26. A pull on the chain swings the lever in a direction to open the valve and allows the water in the tank to iow from the outlet chamber 7 to the delivery pipe 8, and when the chain is released the valve is closed by the spring 18.
The apparatus herein described is simple in construction and can therefore be cheaply manufactured. It has no complicated parts to get out of order and is elicient in action. The tank is always full and the pressure is constant and the same as that in the citymains. It is noiseless, requires no washers and is therefore not liable to leaks. The valve is a single casting and always seats squarely by reason of its being provided with guides on both sides.
I claim:
A iushing apparatus comprising a tank having an inlet thereto and a hopper bottom, and anoutlet chamber comprising a one-piece casing attached at its top to the lower end of said hopper and provided with a diaphragm having a valve seat, and with lateral tubular extensions projecting therefrom at opposite sides of its diaphragm, one of said extensions being closed thereto and forming a stuiiing box, a valve for said seat having stems projecting on opposite sides `and through said tubular casing extensions,
a cap closing the end of each of said extensions and` forming a guide for the respective end of the-valve stem, a spring surrounding said stem between the valve and said cap, and means engageable with the opposite end of said stem projecting through said stuffing box for opening the valve.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signaturel in presence of two witnesses.
Il. J. CALDARONE, M. MAURO.
