" To all it may concern:
,ain, anda'esident of theborougb in the city and State of New the city and State of New York, have invented a new and .useful Improvement in Article Holders for Liquid Coating Machines, of which the following is a specifica-- tion. I
This invention relates to improvements in article holders for use in connection with liquid coating machines and has for its object to provide certain improvements in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts of the holder whereby the articles may be supported in the desired angular position within the holder to produce the best results when the articles are being treated with the'coating liquid.
A practical embodiment of our invention is re resented in the accompanying drawings inW TQ -f- Y Figure 1 represents'the holder in side elevation, apiano-board being shown supported in position therein, Fig. 2 is a front view of the same, Fig. 3 is a top plan view. and Figs. 4 and 5' are enlarged detail views showing more clearly the construction, form andarrangement of the devices for supporting the toprs of the articles. 1
he holder com rises a top 1, a bottom 2 and vertical and iagonal side bars 3 and 4 connecting the top and bottom. The major portion of the top 1 projects to the front of the vertical side bars 3 and the major portion of the bottom 2 rojects to the rear of the said vertical side liars, so that the articles to be supported within the holder may be arranged in an inclined position therein.
A plurality of bars 5 extend across the bottom 2 of the holder to form supports for the bottoms of the articles to be treated. A plurality of clamps 6 are ad'ustable laterally along a cross bar 7 extsi il'gling between the diagonal side bars 4 a short distance above the bottom 2 of the holder. These clamps 6 are provided withsocket pieces 8 which embrace the cross-bar 7. Set screws 9 serve. to secure, these clamps 6 in any desired position. The-lower aw. of each clamp is denoted by 10 and the upper jaw by 11. The
upper jaw provided with a set screw 12 arranged to clamp a portion of thearticle to a be treated between it and the lower jaw 10 of the clamp.
A plurality ofloop frame s are located at the top of the h01der,.each loop frame comprising upper and lower horizontal ortions '13, 14 and side portions 15.; Pivot olts 16 extend from the side ortions 15 of the loop frame through the si espf the top 1 of the holder and they are provided with clamp nuts 17 arrangedto lock the loop frame in any desired angular position with respect to the top ofthe holder. There are a number of these loop frames provided so as to render the holder applicable for use in connection with articles of many different shapes and sizes.
Each loop frame is provided with a 111'- ralit ofs rin ressed longitudinally. sli in" y g P g fingers 18 aving pointed inner ends arranged to engage the tops of the articles to be treated and assist in holding the articles in position in the holder. Each of these fingers 18 slides through the upperiand lower portions 13, 14,
of the loop frame and is provided with a,
withdrawing cam 19 pivoted at 20 on the said finger. Aspring 21 is interposed between the withdrawing cam 1 9 and the upper portion 13 of the loop frame. The withrawing cam 19 engages the lower portion 14 of the loop frame and when in one position i permits the finger to yieldingly enga e the article and when in another position 1 hold the fingerin a withdrawn position. The top 1.. of, the holder is further provided with a plate 22 having a plurality of holes 23 therethrougharranged upon both sides of the plane in which the vertigal side bars 3 of the older are located for use in suspending the holder from a carriage, not shown herein.
The holder constructed as shown and described, permits the articles to be supported therein at the desired angular position to in-.
present time in liquid coating parting from the spirit an scope of our invention; hence we do not wish to limit ourand a plura adjustab e supports for the said sever selves strictly to the structure .herein set forth, but
What we claim is:
1. An article holder for liquid dipping machines comprising a skeleton frame having top, bottom and sides, spring-pressed fingers carried by the top of the frame, a cross-bar near the bottom of the frame, and article supporting clamps adjustable laterally thereon wlth respect to the said spring-. ress'ed fingers whereby an article may be hel in the desired angular osition within the holder.
' 2. An article older for liquid dipping mar chines comprising a frame and means for supporting an articlein the desired angular lposition therein, comprising an adjustable amp for engaging one portion of the article, springpressed fingers for engaging another portion of the article and an angularly adjustable support for said spring-pressed fingers.
3. An article holder for liquid dipping machines comprising a frame, and means for supportin an article in the desired angular position t erein, comprisingan adjustable.
clamp for en aglng one portlon of the article fingers one of which is arranged to en a e another ortion of the article and anagu ar y f d series 0 spnng-presse gers.
4. An articleholder for liquid dipping maity of series of spring-pressed chines comprising a frame and means for supporting an article in the desired angular position therein, com rising a clamp for engag one portion of t 0 article, a sprmg-presse finger for engaging another portion of the article and a manually operated cam for withdrawing the said spring-pressed finger.
5. An article holder for iquld dlpplng machines comprising a main frame and means forsupportmg an article in the desired angular posltion therein, complrlsing a loop frame pivotally adjustable in t e saidmain frame and a plurality of spring-pressed fingers car- .ried by said loop frame.
6. An article holder for liquid dipping ma erein, comprising a plurahty day of February 1908. REME A. BEAUSEJOUR. GUSTAV DBUBEL.
