JOHN W. JOHNSON, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
ZACKAGE-TIE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 3, 1909.
Application filed October 16, 1908. Serial No. 458,024.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that i, Jenn W. Jornrson, citizen of the United States, esi-rling at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of viissouri, have invented CCIJZLlll new and useful Improvements in Package-Tics, of -which the following is a specification.
he pre int invention relates to certain and useful improvements in bundle or package ties and the object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which can he easily and quickly applie package or removed therefrom and -ich will serve to securely he d the contents the he invention further contemplates a novel form of package tie vi i'ch can be quic ly expanded or contracted so as to fit various sizes of pa 7 and which is peculiarly constructed so that by pulling upon one strap member the tie a" ill be drawn tightly around both the ends and. the sides of the pack For a .ll uni rstanding of the invention and the merit sot and ale to acquire a l 11"-Wl2 lg8O t ieans for cil ecting the 's 00 had to the following oescriptii accon pa ying drawings, in 'which:
Figure 1 is a perspective vies showing the improved package tie applied, a Fig. is a pe s ective viev: oi the paclvgo tie when detae Cor sp tllG-Q in and are and like parts are referred to in the description and indi =ated in all the v16 s of the drawings by the same rei'erence characters.
4].. "J3 Un- FIA 1' l 1 1 peonica cesciii tiie present emcdiment of the invention, the numeral 1 the opposit ity thereof. [in inter men ate potion of a transverse str p i which is designed to extend around the sides the paciza e, is stitcl or ctheri. ise arely connected to the buckle end of the strap section 1, the two ends of the transverse strap being passed loosely through the ring 3 and terminating in a second end strap 5 which is secured thereto. This second end strap 5 is designed to be drawn around the opposite end of the package or bundle to that engaged by the first mentioned strap section 1 and to be engaged by the buckle 2.
With this construction it will be obvious that when the tie is applied to a package, the buckle 2 Will be disposed at the top of the package and the ring 3 at the bottom of the package, the transverse strap 4 extending around the sides of the package While the strap section 1 and end strap 5 extend around the ends of the package. By pulling upon the end strap 5, the ends of the transverse strap 4 are drawn through the ring; 3 and the said strap caused to grip the sides of the package, and at the same time the strap seciion 1 and end strap are drawn tightly around the ends of the package. The end strap 5 is then caused to engage the buckle 2 whereupon the members of the package are held securely together, but may be quickly released by again disengaging the end strap.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new is:
1. in a package tie, the combination or" a strap section adapted to fit around one end of the package, a transverse strap adapted to extend around the sides of the package and having an intermediate portion thereof permanently connected to one end of the first mentioned strap section. the ends of the transverse strap having' a sliding connection with the other end of the said strap section, and a second end strap connected to the eXtremi ties of the transverse strap and adapted to extend around an end of the package and to be secured to that end of the first mentioned strap section to Which the transverse strap is permanently secured.
2. in a package tie, the combination of a strap section adapted to extend around one end of a package, a buckle applied to one end of the strap section, a ring applied to the opposite end of the strap S6CLlO11, a transverse strap adapted to extend around the sides of the package and having an intermediate porlion thereof permanently connected to the buckle end of the strap While the two ends thereof pass loosely through the ring, and a second end strap secured to the extremities of the transverse strap and adapted to be drawn around the end of the package and engaged by the buckle.
In testimony whereof I my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
JOHN W. JOHNSON.
