To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IDA M. SANDERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Westport, in the county of Carroll and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Package-Ties, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comlprises a simple, inexpensive, and serviceab e'package-tie for bundles, packages, or the like.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following descri tion and accompanying drawings, in whic Figure 1 is a top plan view of a tie embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a broken section, enlarged, to bring out more clearly the arrangement of the reinforcing-strips of the tie.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description'and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
In the practical embodiment of the invention Yit is designed to use longitudinallyspaced strips 1, referably of fabric material,
such as tape, w1ic h strips are connected by spaced elastic members 2, the more remote ends of the strips being provided with hooks 3, which are adapted to be engaged with one another after the tie has been passed about the package which is to be secured thereby. The elastic members 2 are preferably made of a single length of spring-wire, which is passed through openings in adjacent ends of the strips 1 to connect the same. Portions of the wire from which the members 2 are made between the strips 1 are coiled so as to conduce to the elastic or spring effect thereof and in order to strengthen the connection between themembers 2 and the parts 1 it is designed that the adjacent ends of the strips 1 be folded over, as shown at 4, so as to overlap transverse strips 5, which latter form stiifeners. The strips 5 are preferably equal in l l l l length to the width of the strips 1, and the wire from which the members 2 are formed passes through the end portions of the strips 1 and also the stifi'enmg-strips 5, applied thereto beneath the folds 4. The members 2 are therefore not liable to tear from the material from which the strips 1 are made, as will be obvious.
Two hooks 8 are located at the remote ends of the strips 1 and are preferably made also from a length of wire which is passed through the outer folded portions 6 of the strips 1, said folded portions 6 also overlapping the transverse stifl'ening-strips 5. Opposite eX- tremities of the wire passed through the remote ends of the strips 1 are bent to form the hooks 3 before mentioned. Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- A package-tie composed of longitudinallyspaced strips of fabric material having the ends thereof folded upon the bodies of said strips, transverse spacing-strips received in the folded portions at opposite ends of the strips, adjacent ends of the strips being connected by spaced elastic members made from a length of spring-wire passing through the folded extremities of the strips and the stiflening-strips applied thereto, and a air of hooks at the outer end of each strip, said hooks being located at the extremities of a length of wire passi ng through the outer folded endportion of the adjacent strip and the stifl'ening-strip applied thereto.
