To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN M. J. SKnLLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of'Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Chairs, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in window-chairs for the use of window cleaners, painters, and carpenters, enabling them to reach any portion of the outside of a window in a perfectly safe and convenient manner.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a generally improved chair of this class, which will be exceedingly simple in construction, cheap of manufacture, and eflicient in use.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved window-chair which may be readily set up or removed, and when not in use, may be folded so as to occupy but little space in transportation or storage.

Another object of the invention is to provide a laterally extensible window chair which may be readily adjusted for use in connection with windows of varying widths, and when set up will not indent, scratch, or otherwise mar any portion of the window frame with which it is connected.

\Vith these ends in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring now to the drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1, is a perspective view of the improved windowchair as it appears in its normal or operative position applied to an ordinary window. Fig. 2, a side elevation of the same, the upper portion of one of the frame-engaging standards being broken away for the purose of clearer illustration of the parts. Fig. 3, a detail perspective view of the inner abutting or padded side of one of the frameengaging standards and the pivoted and reinforced ledge-bearing portions of one of the side bars of the frame of the improved chair-platform. Fig. i, a plan view of a laterally-extensible form of chair-platform adapted for use inconnection with windows of varying width.

Similar numerals of reference designate like parts throughout all the figures of the drawings.

The improved window-chair comprises a pair of laterally-extending window-frameengaging standards adapted to take over and abut against the inner or face sides ofthe vertical or upright members of the windowframe, and carry a pivotally-mounted chairplatform adapted in its normal or operative position to project outwardly through the window opening and resting upon the win dow sill and ledge portions of the windowframe to which it is applied, as hereinafter fully described.

The frame-engaging standards 1, are provided at their inner edges with bearing-lugs 2, and link-eyes 8, said bearing-lugs 2, carrying a horizontally arranged pivot bearing shaft 1, pivotally connecting and supporting the chair-platform by passing through bearing-lugs 5, at the rear or base portions of the chair-platform. As a means of stopping and maintaining the chair-platform in its horizontal position and at right angles to the frame-engaging standards, the hearing lugs 5, are provided with upwardly and laterally extending bracelugs or arms 6, which are adapted to be brought into engagement with the adjacent inner marginal edges of the standards 1, when the chair-.

platform is brought to its horizontal or normal position as indicated most clearly in Figs. 1 and 8,0f the drawings.

The chair-platform comprises a frame consisting of side bars 7 connected by end bars 8, preferably formed integral with each other as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, of the drawings, said side bars 7, carrying a plurality of cross-bars 9, of any suitable and convenient form.

The link-eyes 3, of the frame engaging standards carry brace-chains 10, connected to the free ends of the side-bars 7 in the present instance, by means of hooks 11, taking into eyes 12, near the outer or free ends of the sidebars 7 and adapted to carry the weight of the occupant of the chair-platform.

As a means of firmly securing the windowchair in its connected position with the window-frame and particularly as against any rearward movement of the chair-platform when occupied, the side bars 7, are provided with reinforced ledge-bearing portions '13, having a pluralityof vertical pin openings 14. The pin-openings 14 are adapted to receive and contain brace-pins 15, extending beneath the ledge-bearing portions 13, of the side bars and abutting against the outer or face side of the windowledge 16, as shown most clearly in Figs. 1 and.2,.of the drawings. It will be observed that the plurality of pin openings adapt the chair-platform to beadjusted to window sills and ledges of varying thickness.

As a means for preventing the marring of the face sides of the vertical members of the window-frame the inner or abutting sides of the frame engaging standards are provided with pads 17, of any suitable and convenient resilient material, preferably, of felt, rubber, or similar material.

As a means for adapting the window-chair for use in connection with windows of varying widths a laterally-extensible chair-platform may be provided as indicated in Fig. 4, of the drawings, by means of overlapping slidably-connected connecting bars 8 and cross bars 9 said connecting and cross-bars having their ends provided with sleeves 18, slidably engaging the contiguous bars, as indicated.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantage of my invention will be readily understood.

Having thus described by invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pattent is,

A window-chair, comprising cushioned frame-engaging standards provided at their upper inner edges with link-eyes and at their lower inner edges with bearinglugs, a chairframe comprising side bars provided with a plurality of pin-openings and terminating at their rear in bearing-lugs having upwardly and laterally-extending brace-lugs adapted to normally engage said standards above their bearinglugs, a horizontal bearingshaft passing through said bearing-lugs of said standards and chair-platform, bracepins mounted in said pin-openings and eX- tending beneath said side bars, and bracechains secured at one end to the free ends of said side bars of said chair and at the other to said link-eyes at the upper inner edges of said frame-engaging standards.
