Be it known that 1, Bnwrnon rinnnnsnn, a subject of the King of Denmark, residing at Kansas City, in the county of .'\,\:unlotte and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful `lmprovements in Vapor- Bath Jipparatus, of which the Vfollowing' is a specification.

This linvention relates to vapor bath app aratus and more especially to apparatus enabling a person to ltake a bath in the steam arising from an ordinary bath tub aud my object is to produce apparatus which can be easily, quickly and conveniently placed in or removed Afrom operative position upon a bath-tub.

A further object is to produce an efficient and reliable apparatus of this character embodying' the desirable features of simililicity7 strength, durabilityT and cheapness of construction.

To these ends the invention consists in certain novel and peculiar features of construction and organization as hereinafter described and claimed; and in order that it .may be fully understood reference is to bc had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l, is a vertical central longitudinal section of an apparatus embodying my invention and a part of a bath tub supporting the same, the position of the bather being indicated by dotted lines. Fig. 2, is a fragmentary plan view of the chair portion of the apparatus. Fig. 3, is a section on the line llfl.-lll of Fig. 1. Fig. 4, is an enlarged vertical section taken on the dotted line iV-IV of Fig'. 2. F 5, is a section on the line V-V of Fig. 4.

In the said drawing, a seat-frame is constructed as follows:

1 and 2 indicate a pair of cross bars of sull'b cient length to bridge a bath-tub A and provided in their under sides with recesses 3 to lit snugly upon the external roll portion or flange B of the bath-tub to prevent any possibility of lateral slippage.

4 indicates longitudinal bars ci'innecting bars 1 and 2, and 5 is a cane seat or bottom vfor the frame, it being understood of course that any suitable seat7 preferably a 'foraminous one, may be employed.

6 indicates a hinged back for the seat, the same consisting preferably of a rectangular vframe bridged or covered by a cane or equivalent back 7, and hinged as at S, to the seat- 'frame in order that the angular relation between the seat-frame and back may be varied.

9 indicates braces pivoted as at 10, to the sides of the back and extending downwardly and f .n'\vardl v therefrom and ilitting in recesses or grooves 1() in the cross bar 2.

11 indicates a longitudinal series of sockets or grooves in the under sides of braces E), and 12 are plates secured to the undersides of said braces and provided with openings 13 corresponding in width to the sockets but of shorter length by preference as shown most clearly in 4t.

14 are screws secured in cross bar 2, inthe plane of grooves 1() thereof, having their heads disposed above the bases of said grooves a distance slightly exceeding' the thickness of plates 12, the heads of the screws being adapted to enter the openings or sockets 11, and overlap plate 12 at the front ends of openings 153 thereof in order to secure the hinged back at the desired angle.

ln the drawing the head of the screw shown is flattened as at 15, to enter either of the sockets of the narrow thin brace 9, but this flattening of the screw heads is a matter of no importance as it simply involves the question of proportion.

16 indicates hangers consisting' of a pair ol' bars depending' from the sides of the seatframc and provided with vertical series of holes to receive the bolts 17. An adjustable frame consists of a pair of side bars 1S eX- tending through the space between bars of the hangers, and resting on vertically adjustable bolts 17 and the cross bar 19 at the foot ends of bars 1S, the latter being` hinged at their opposite ends at 20 to the side bars of the seat-framc. Hinged as at 21 to the side bars 18 is a footrest consisting ol' a pair of sido bars 22 connected by cross sills 23 and hinged to and extending downward and forward from said foot-rest is a notched brace 24 for engagement with cross bar 19, the upper edge of said bar 1S) being notched at 1Q to .receive the brace 24 and prevent lateral slippage or movement thereof, it being obvious that by a proper adjustment of the brace the foot rest can be disposed at varying angles to the seat.

25 indicates a curtain or cover, preferably of waterproof material and adapted to be draped completely over the chair and the upper part of the supporting bath-tub, the said curtain being preferably provided near its lower margin with a drawstring 26 to permit the curtain to be drawn tightly around the body of the tub below the roll or flange B thereof. The curtain is provided with an opening 27 through which the occupants head is adapted to project and then the curtain is drawn snugly around the neck of the occupant so as to prevent the escape of steam through said opening, and for the comfort ol' the occupant., said curtain is adapted to be equipped at the rear side of said opening with a cushion or head-rest 28 which will bear against the upper end of the hinged back oll the chair.

In practice the apparatus is first arranged in proper position upon the bath-tub with the curtain draped loosely around the latter, the person who is to take a vapor bath then raises the curtain at one side and seats himself upon the chair, the brace 9 at the corresponding side being first raised out of the way if desired to permit such position to be assumed by the occupant with greater ease and convenience, the said brace being then resecured in position. An attendant then operates the draw-string to secure the curtain around the tub. The faucet, not shown is then opened to charge the tube with the desired quantity of hot water, from which the steam will arise and envelop the occupant of the chair. It will thus be seen that a person can take a steam vapor bath with his head completely uncovered and thus avoid danger of inhaling the steam or having his hair unnecessarily dampened.

From the above description it will be apparent that I have produced a vapor bath apparatus possessing the features ol' advantage enumerated as desirable and I wish it to be understood that I do not desire to be restricted to the exact details of construcl l l tion shown and described, as obvious modifications will suggest themselves to one skilled in the art.

Having thus described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is

1. A vapor bath apparatus comprising a seat adapted to engage the edge of a bath tub and be supported thereby, a back hinged to the seat and extending upward therefrom, braces hinged at their upper rear ends to the back and having theirI lower front ends adjustably engaging the front edge of the seat, hangers depending within the tub from the seat near the front edge of the same, a frame hinged at its rear end to the under side of the seat near the rear edge thereof and adjustably supported near its front end by said depending hangers, and a foot rest carried by the front end of said frame.

2. A vapor bath apparatus comprising a seat adapted to engage and be held by the edge of a bath tub, a back hinged to the seat and extending upward therefrom, braces hinged at their upper rear ends to the back near the upper end of the same and provided in their under sides with longitudinal series ol'I sockets, plates on the under sides of the braces having openings registering with but of less area than the said sockets, headed retainers secured in the seat and having their heads entering the sockets and engaging the said plates, a frame adjustably supported on the under side of the seat, and a foot rest carried by the front end of said frame.
