UNITED sTATns PATENT om ion.
HANSON B. JOYCE, Ol? SEA'lTLE, WASHINGTON.
snow-onse.
Specification of Application filed. February 23, 1906.
Letters Patent. Patented July 6, 1909.
Serial No. 302,599.
\ jects referred to hereinafter in View, my inyention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement ol' parts as set 'l'orth in this speciiication and de'lined in the aplpen ded claims.
l'lfith reference to the accompanying drawing, in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout, ligurc 1 is a plan View ol' my improved show case in partial section taken on line l ol' Fig. 2 showing thc'same with. the parts assembled to providea reil'rigerating-chamber. Fig. 2 is a side View in partial section on line 2 ol' Fig. l. .l `ig. 3 is a transverse section on line friw-S o'l' liig. 2, and 4 is a View in perspcctivcol' the removable top-wall section shown with a portion thereoi.' broken away.
lu. carrying out my invention l provide a main l'rame comprising a bottom 2, corner osts 3 secured thereon, and side and end rails 4, el and 5, 5 rcsiectiyely which are laste/ned to said posts.` intermediate the end rails 5 are cross-pieces 6 which are suitably spaced apart and secured to. the. siderails.
ltel'crence numeral 7 indicates a frame ol suitable size to ulit in the space between cross pieces (j, and when so placed engaging in suitable rabbcts provided in said pieces and the intervening portions ol' the side-rails l so that it can be readily removed, and 8, 8 indicates similar l'rames 'fitting between said cros'sfpicces and the end-rails 5 and engaging in suitable rabbets provided in said pieces and the end and side rails el' the main lrame.
The frames 7 and 8, S, are provided with panels, as 7 and S respectively, consisting of sections ol' glass or other suitable transparent material, secured in suitable rabbets provided in the members ol', respective Nimes, and said frames are preferably ewingably ,connected with adjacent end-rails by suitable hinges so that they may be raised to give access to the case. The sides and ends oi' the main frame are )iiriiwided with walls oi' transparent material as sections oiI glass 9, 9 andlO, 10 respectively which are secured in rabbets provided inthe adjacent members oilI said frame.
.Reference numeeals 9", 9- and 10', 10 in dicate supplemental wall sections consisting ol'` sections oi glass or other suitable material removably secured in opposing relations to -the main side and end Walls 9, 9 and ll), l0 respL-ctively but are spaced therefrom to pro vide air chambers between said. main walls and their respective supplemental sections.
The supplemental Wall sections 9 and l0 are mounted-in suitable trames 9 and l0 respectively, the latter of which are prc'len ably of suitable length yto overlap the adjacent end-rails of the former when said sections are in place. These frames are procorresponding rail oi frames l0 by suitable means, as screws l2, whereby, when the screws l2 are removed all o1 the supplemental wallscau be removed simultaneously as a unit, by slipping them upwardly from the main trame.
14 designates a casing inclosing a chamber for ice and provided with a suitable aperture in the top Wall normally closed by a cover 15 which is suitably hinged to said casing so that it may be opened when desired to have access to the chamber. 4 The easing 1/1- is pro vided with a lateral projection, as a llange 16, extending about its margin adjacent the top and engaging in the rabbet of the cross` pieces 6 and intervening portions olZ the side rails lof the main frame, whereby thc said casing, when in place, serves as a closure for the space between said crosspieccs and ex tends into the interior of the show-case for the purpose of refrigeration;
ln the bottom portion of the show-casel have shown a Water-chamber 17 convent ieutly consisting of tubing arranged. :in the lorm of a coil which is connected with a suitable discharge Valve 18 located exterior to the show-case and also with casinr 14. The
lll() latter connection consisting of a flexible tubing 19 connected with a suitable aperture provided in the bottom of said casing-and vdetachably engaged with a nipple or the like f' pnr said coil. Thus the dripplngs from the ice in casing 14 will pass to said Water chamber and may be retained therein, by closing valve 18, as a cooling agent.
From the foregoing it will be readily understood that the wall section 7 can be readily substituted for casing 14 andthe supplemental wall sections removed when the Weather is cool, and said casing and Wall sections replaced to convert the show-case into a refrigerating-chamber when the Weather' is warm.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Leteters Patent of the United States of America, 1s:-
1. A show case comprising a main frame consistingr of a bottom, corner posts secured thereto, side and end rails secured to said corner posts, said rails being formed with 1. rabbets, Jand transparent panels engaged in the rabbets of sai rails, and a casing comrising side and end walls consisting of a irame secured to said rails, and trans arent anels in said frame spaced from sai main ame panels.
' 2. A show case com rising a main frame having its side and enti) Walls `of transparent material, rails in which said walls are secured projecting outwardly beyond the same, and
having glass panels therein spaced from the side and end walls of said main frame.
3. A show case comprising a main frame I and supplemental end and side Walls spaced 40 therefrom, said sup lemental side and end walls being removab y connected, and means removablyy securing the same to said main frame, whereby they can be removed as a unit from said main frame.
4.. A show case comprising a main frame consisting'of end and side walls of' transparent material, supplemental side and end Walls removably secured to the end and side Walls of said frame and spaced therefrom, means removably secuin said supplemental side and end Walls toget 1er, means removably securing the same to said inain frame, whereby they can be removed therefrom as a unit, and packing arranged between said supplemental end and side walls and the adjacent walls oi said 'main frame. Signed at Seattle, Washington this 13 day of February 1906.
