in the borough of Avalon, in the countyof Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania,'have invented ordiscovered new and useful Improvements in Can-Marking Devices, of which the following is a specification.

The following is a detailed description of the drawings.

The cap or other article to be nun-lied. is now rested on the top of male type 2l-21 and the press is operated depressing plunger 2 thus forcing the female ty e 16*16 down on. the article to be married. The type ill-21, resisting the depression of-the arti-i ole, force the material thereof into the female typo 48-4 6, thus forming raised numbers, letters or other characters in the material of articie.

I have shown my invention applied to a 'Well known type of press but its appli ability to any design of press is evident. The durability of my invention is also of great advantage. When type heconieso worn as not to properly coact to give a clear impression, new type may be substituted at trifling expense and the equipment is r original condition. The holders and form are practically indestructible.
W hat i desire to claim is:-
In a can marking device, the combination of a press having a stationary bed and a plunger, a slotted block secured to said bed, type members set in the slots ofsaid block, asecond block secured to said plunger provided with a recess on itsiowor face, a slotted type form occupying a portion oi said recess and shouldered tvoe members bearing thetop of said- 7055 arddcpending through the siots of sin form, said iii-st and last mentioned type members co-acting to mark the can, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
