sion weight is in its normal operative position.
The latch c is in the form of an arm 29 stamped from sheet metal and shaped to have the square end 30 with the central hole 31 for the stem 16, the downwardly-extending side lip 31 and the forked end 32. The latch. c is held in its operative position intermediate the head 17 on the stem 16 and the lower end of the coiled spring 18 by the stem 16 extending through the hole 31 in the latch and extends through the slot 12 in the support 7, thereby bringing the forked end 32 into a position for the upwardly extending end 26 of the tension weight b to engage with and lift the latch.
The bobbin (Z has the usual teeth 33-33 on its up 361 .or head end with which the side lip 31 on the latch engages, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4.
In the operation of my improved thread.
tension and delivery mechanism the thread e coming from the bobbin cZ passes through the guide eye 10 in the support 7, then downward and through the guide eye 22 in the tension weight Z), then upward through the guide eye 13 in the top of the support 7 to.
the point where the several threads in the machine are braided together. The draft of the thread as it comes from the bobbin This in turn through the'upwardly-extending end 26 ens gaging with the forked end 32 of the latch c raises the latch c against the tension of the coiled spring 18, thus releasing the lip 31 on the latch from the. teeth 33 on the bobbin, and allowing the bobbin to revolve one tooth. The latch 0 now falls by gravity and through the tension ofthe spring 18 and catches the next tooth on the bobbin. These operations are repeated indefinitely, delivering a predetermined amount of thread for each upward movement of the latch. The latch c is securely held in its operative posi tion and forms a permanent member of the racer. When the thread 0 breaks the tension weight 7) falls by gravity, the lower end 27 bf'the'tension weight enters the notch 19 "and the side-wings 28 28' on the tension machine.
and resting on the upper end of said tension said support at its upper end and carrying 1 sa'enoe ef sheet'metal. The required tension on the thread e-- is attained by the tension of the coiledspring 18 on the latch c and the racer as a whole is lightened in weight, thereby decreasing the friction of the rac'er in the The tension weight b may be'removed from the contracted portion 11 of the support 7 by forcing the latch upward to. the top of the slot 12 in the support.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A racer for braiding machines comprissupport having a substantially reduced portion at its upper end and a vertical slot formed between the edges of said reduced portion, a tension wei ht having rearwardly and inwardly turned 1 a'nges for slidably engaging said Vertical support and adapted to be placed in position over said reduced portion, a rigid bracket secured to said support and projecting over said bobbin, said bracket being provided with a spring pressed vertical stem to engage the bobbin at its upper end, and a latch carried by said spring, said latch comprising-a member provided atone end with an opening for slidable engagement with said stem, a. down turned lip for engagement with the toothed adapte'dto project through and engage said vertical slot in said support and adapted to opratively' rest on the upper end of sai tension weight.
2. A racer for braiding machines, com rising in combination with a threaded b0 bin, a vertical slotted support, a bracket provided with a spring pressed stern for engaging the upper end of said bobbin, a sheet metal tension weight provided with a guide eye and having rearwardly and inwardly turned flanges for slidably engaging'said support, and a sheet metal latch, hav1ng an opening for slidable engagement with said vertical stem, a downturned lip adapted to engage the toothed end of said bobbin, and a bifurcated portion projecting through and slidably engaging with the slotted support,
weight, whereby said latch is operated to release said bobbin'by the upward tension exertedby the thread on said tension weight.
3. A racer for braiding machines comprising in combination, a frame, a bobbin removably carried thereon, a vertical support beside said bobbin having a reduced portion at its upper end, a rigid bracket carried by a spring pressed stem for en aging sai bobbin, a tension weight carried by said support and a latch member carried on said stem below said spring for engagement with the said bobbin, said tension Weight comprising a metallic sheet embracing said sup 1 mg in combination with a bobbin, a vertical via" 'end oif said bobbin, and a blfurcated end site said reduced portion and eiihcf remm'cd port and having a uid:- eve and rearwardly name. to this specification in the presence i? u a I I u I and muuncd [lung 1 whereby 52ml weighs; 1 two subscnbmg WHHQSSUS.
