CHARLES HAGGERTY, or PAWTUCKET, :anonn ISLAND, e'ssienon TONEWENGLAND RHODE CARRIE R FOR BRAIDING MACHINES.
Application filed February 9, 1928. Serial No, 252,960.
This invention relates to an improved construction of carrier for braiding machines; and has for its ob ect to provide in such a earrler. a guide standardfor a. tenslon weight which is slidably mounted thereon and a tension spring arranged toact betweenthe standard and the weight to accelerate the take-up action onthe yarn whenv running at a high speed. r
A further object of the invention is to mount a guide rod on the weight member and Y mount a coil spring on the rod to act upon and cause a quick return motion of the weight after having'been lifted.
The invention further consists in the provision of a control latch for the package having a latch for'the package having a latch lift,
appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing my improved construction of carrier with the tension weight in partly lifted position.
Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the weight standard and the latch lift member as guided in bosses on the standard, also showing the weight in partly lifted position.
Figure 3is the same as Figure 2 with the exce tion that the weight is raised to the top of tlie travel and engaging the latch lift to operate the latch and release more yarn.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the takeup weight showing the spring carrying guide rod mounted thereon. g
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the upper portion of the weight standard showing two guide bosses mounted thereon.
Fi ure 6 is a sectional elevation of the weig t standard through the guide bosses.-
Figure 7 is a rear view of theyweight standard with the weight mounted thereon and showing the guide rod to one side of the center of the standard and extending through the standard bearing.
It is found in the practical construction and operation of braiding carriers of this character, of advantage to construct a weight standard with a boss through which the turned down end of the latch lift rod is guid ed and to also provide a boss onthis standard through whichthe springncarrying rod which is attached to the weight may be guided, this rod boss also serving as an abut ment between which and the weight the spring may act to accelerate the takeup ac tion of the weight upon the yarn causing the carrier to function properly while running'at a high rate of speed; and the follow ing is a detailed description of the present embodiment of my invention, and showing one arrangement of parts by which these advantageous results may be accomplished:
With reference to the drawings, 10 desig nates the body of a carrier which isprovided 14to slide vertically thereon. This standard is herein shown as being provided with a frontrboss or lug 15 which is drilled at 16 to guide the downwardly turned end 17 of the latch lift 18, the opposite end of the latch lift being connected as at 19 to the latch20, which is mounted to rock on the fulcrum pins 21, the latch being provided with a tooth 22 to engageteeth 23 in the bottom of the package spool 24. a
a This weight standard 13 is provided on its rear with another boss 25 which is drilled at 26 to serve as a sliding bearing for the spring guide rod 27, the lower end of which rod is threaded as at 28 and screwed into the tapped hole of the weight 14. On this weight rod, I have mounted a coil spring 29 its upper end abutting against the under side of the boss 25, while its lower end abutsagainst the weight 14, thereby acting upon this yarn tension weight to accelerate its yarn take'up The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes towhich the device is susceptible, the
invention being-defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A carrier for braiding machines having a package spindle, a weight guide standard, a tension weight slidable on the standard, a rod carried by the weight, a spring coil-9d about the rod to act upon the weight, and a feed control latch operated by the movement of said Weight.
2. A carrier for braiding machines having a package spindle, a tension weight guide standard, a weight slidable on the standard, an abutment on the standard, a tension spring located to one side of the standard and acting between said abutment and said weight, and a feed control latch operated by said weight.
3. A carrier for braiding machines having a package spindle, a weight guide standard, a tension weight slidable on the standard, a guide rod carried by the weight, a guide boss on the standard for said rod, a spring onthe rod acting between said boss andweight and a feed control latch operated by movement of said weight.
4. A carrier for braiding machines having a package spindle, a weight guide standard,
a package control latch, a latch lift guided in said standarcha weight on the standard, a rod carried by the weight and also guided in the standard, and a spring on the rod arranged to act on the weight and said weight being arranged to, engage the latch lift to operate the latch.
5. A carrier for braiding machines havin a package spindle, a weight guide standard having a guide boss thereon above the weight travel, a package feed control latch, a latch lift connected at one end to the latch with its opposite weight engaging end turned down to extend through and receive a bearing in said boss, a latch operating weight on the standard'and a spring acting upon the weight to accelerate its take-up action upon the re-' 7 leased yarnafter operating the latch.
6. A carrier for braiding machines having a package spindle, a weight guide standard, a package feed control latch, a latch lift member connected to the lift and having a down turned end slidably supported in a bearing in said standard,a latch operating weight on the standard, a rod' carried by the weight also slidably supported in the stand ard, and a spring on the rod acting upon the weight to accelerate its take-up action after having engaged the lift to release more yarn.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CHARLES HAGGERTY.
