APPLIoATIoN FILED snm. 11. 190s.

VIII/Illa am UNITED STATES PATENT FFTCE.
MARTIN F. BRAKE, OF PITTSBURG, KANSAS.
PILLOW-SHAM HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 11, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN F. DRAKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Crawford and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pillow-Sham Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the class of pillow sham holders, and has for an object to provide a device of this character that can be adjustably mounted upon the head board of a bed and which will effectively serve as means for supporting or holding a pillow sham in a correct position to present a neat and tidy appearance.
A further object of the present invention is to provide means to obviate the removal of pillow shams when the same are not in use and to provide the device with means whereby it may be a permanent part of the bed, or in other words, it need not be removed when the bed is in use.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent as the nature of the invention is better disclosed, and it will be understood that changes within the scope of t-he claims may be made without departingl from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing, forming a portion of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views,-Figure 1 is a front view of the pillow sham holder applied to the head of a bed, F ig. 2 is partly an end view and partly a sectional view showing the holder in a folded position, Fig. 3 is a plan view of one of the hinged members or blocks, F ig. 4 is a sectional vlew on the line 4 4 of F ig. 3, Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view showing` a slight-ly modified form of my invention.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, and with particular reference to Fig. l, there is shown a portion of the head of a bed A, which in the present instance, is an iron structure, and mounted upon the bar B of the frame is shown a pillow sham support 1 comprising a bar 2 in which is formed elongated slots 3 which are preferably located adjacent to the ends of the said bar 2, and which have disposed therein shanks 4L of hooks 5, which latter are engaged with the bar B of the bed, as shown. The shanks 4l are threaded as indicated at 6 and receive clamping nuts 7 adapted to hold the bar 2 in its adjusted position upon the bar B. The upper edge of the bar 2 carries a plurality Patented .Tune 22, 1909.

of curved spurs 8 for a purpose to be hereinafter described. One leaf 9 of a hinge 10 is secured to the bar 2 midway between the ends thereof and this leaf carries a stop block 11 adapted to engage a similar block 12 carried by the leaf 13 of the said hinge. To hold the blocks 11 and 12 respectively, in a common plane with respect to each other I provide the block 11 with a latch 14- in which is formed a passage 15 to receive a pin 1G as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing, and which pin is carried by the block 12. It will thus be seen that by the use of the latch 14 the device may be held in a folded position.
The block 12 has formed therein vertical slots 17, 13 and 19. The slots 17 and 19 respectively, receivethe upper ends 20 of angularly disposed arms 21 of a frame 22 constructed from a single piece ofwire twisted, as shown, and the frame is provided with a centrally located arm 23 engaged at its upper end in the slot 1S. It will thus be seen that the arms of the frame and their upper ends are confined between the leaf 13 and the block 12 carried thereby. The frame 22 is provided with end extensions 24; which lie in parallel relation to the bar 2.
1n use, the latch 14 is disengaged from the pin 16 in order that the leaf 13 and the block 12 carried. thereby may assume a position shown in F ig. 1 of the drawing, whereupon the upper edge of a pillow sham may be engaged with the spurs 8, and the remaining portion of the sham may be disposed upon the frame 22 and held in a position to present neatness.
The foregoing described pillow sham support is adapted for use upon an iron bed, and upon reference to Fig. 5, wherein is shown my modified form, it will be seen that the leaf 9 has formed integral therewith a right angulai'ly disposed portion 92L which carries fastening screws 10d to engage the head board C of a wooden bed. 1n this form of my invention it may be stated that the upper edge of a pillow sham may be extended slightly at the rear of the head board C and held thereto by means of the common pin or the like.
1 claim:
1. The combination with a bed, of a pillow sham holder comprising a bar having longitudinally disposed slots formed therein, means adjustably mounted in said slots for engaging the headbar of said bed, a hinge carried by said first named bar, and pillow sham supporting arms carried by said hinge.
2. The combination with a bed, of a pillow sham holder comprising a bar lia-ving longitudinally disposed slots formed therein, means adjustably mounted in said slots for engaging the headbar of said bed, a plurality of spurs extending` from the upper edge of the irst named bar, a hinge carried by said first named bar, and pillow sham supporting arms carried by said hinge.
3. A device of the class described comprising a bar having longitudinally disposed slotsformed therein, means engaged in said slots for connecting the bar to the head of a bed, a hinge carried by said bar, a block secured to one leaf of the hinge7 and provided with a plurality of slots, and pillow sham supporting arms having portions secured in said slots.
n testimony whereof I aHiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
