GEORGE JACKSON, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.-
NOZZLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 15, 1909.
Application filed December 4, 1908. Serial No. 465,970.
Be it known that I, GEORGE JACKSON,
citizen of the United States, residing at;
Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nozzles, of which the following is a s ecification.
This invention is a nozz e adapted particularly for use in connection with street flushing or sprinkling wagons or other devices, and has for its object to provide a nozzle which will discharge the water in an advantageous manner for cleaning the street and distributing the water from the wagon.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a plan of the nozzle; Fig. 2 is an edge view; Fig.3 is an end view.
The nozzle is attached to a hose or pipe by means of a threaded nipple 1 terminating in a shoulder 2. This is joined to a casing 3 which is circular where it joins the shoulder, and which is spread or flattened laterally to form an elongated slot or long narrow mouth at the outlet. The middle portion of this mouth, as indicated at 4, is in one plane. One end of the mouth is at an angle thereto, the flattened casing being bent upwardly or at an angle to said plane, as indicated at 6. The other end of the mouth is similarly bent in an opposite direction from the plane of the middle portion of the mouth, as indicated at 5, the ortions 5 and 6 being substantially parallel? or at substantially the same angle on opposite sides of the line of the middle portion {1 of the mouth, one portion merging into the other so that the mouth or slot is continuous, as shown particularly in Fig. 3. This construction is attended with advan tage particularly in connection with fiushers. Then the nozzle is attached to the hose or pipe of the sprinkler, with the nozzle at a convenient angle, the Water discharged from one end of the nozzle will be directed downwardly and outwardly so. as to strike the street close beside the wagon. From the middle portion 4 of the mouth the Water is thrown out farther, and from the opposite end portion the Water is thrown out farther still, in consequence of the difference in the angles of presentation of thevarious portions of the nozzle at the outlet thereof. The shape shown gives a wide distribution of the Water discharged through the nozzle, and also (lischarges the same at varying angles with respect to different parts of a street, effecting an efficient flushing action.
I claim:
A nozzle comprising a casing flattened at the outlet end to form an elongated mouth and bent oppositely at opposite ends of the mouth so that the ends of the mouth are resented at angles on opposite sides of the intermediate part of the mouth.
In testimony whereof, I aHiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE JACKSON.
