ychange the direction of its throw'.
lleretoi'ore various kinds of lawn sprinklers have been devised but it `has not been usual to provide means for continuously changing the position of the spraying nozzle so that it will deliver water in a plurality of directions in succession but in anv irregular sequence.
The object of this invention is to provide means adapted to cause the sprinkling nozzle to move about with a gyratory motion to successively discharge tlie water in difierent directions and thereby wet a larger area than has here ofore been possible with a nozzle of this character.
It is also an object of this invention to provide a very cheap and simple construction adapted to be connected to an ordinary garden hose or other source of water supply and under the action of the water 'pressure to move about and throw water iii an irregular `course and thereby produce a novel and 'amusing eilect.
outlet en d a.
The invention consists of the matters hereinafter described in the speciiication and more fully pointed out and defined in the appended claims.`
In the drawings: The figure is a fragmen tary, side elevation'of ra device embed ing in y invention and showing in dotted iiies some of the various positions assumed by the distributing or spraying nozzle.
As shown in said drawings: A. indicates the end of a garden hose or other source of water supply, to which is attached by means of any suitable hose coupling VB a noz-- zle e, which is restricted or tapered at. its Connected at one end to said tapered end c is a i'leiiible pipe C of rubber or any other preferred material and which as shown is provided with a plurality of spiral coi'rugations c. To the oppcsiteend Specification of Letters Patent.

of said pipe C is 4attached a connection C to which is engaged a bell shaped distributing nozzle D, theA mouth or larger end of which is closed by a plate d having a plurality of perforations d near its circumfen ence but closed at its center.
The operation is follows; When the des vice is attacl'ied` to 'the sourc'c of supply and the water turned thereinto, the distributing nozzle D and the pipe C are filled with water under pressure. The water entering the pipe C from the restricted nozzle e is directed axially oi' said pipe and therefore.
tends to create a vacuum oi' to reduce pressure at the end of said nozzle and adjacent the walls ci said pipe.- This unequal ressure causes the pipe C to move laterally4 at this point owing to its spirally corrugated form, which motion is accentuated by the Patented July 20, 199.
pressure throughthe pipe acting on the eor-l rugated walls, and said pipe C is thus caused to gyrate and move the nozzle D in various directions Obviously a sprinkler constructed in ac cordance with my invention is adapted to cover a maximum amount of area and to produce a very pleasing and amusing ellect to the eye. Obviously also many details of form and construction may be varied without departing` from the principles of my in venticn.
l claim as my invention:
