Be it known that I, LORENZO D. IRisH, citizen of the United States, residing at Mason,
in the county of Ingham and State of Michigan, have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Molds, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in molds for the manufacture of cement tiles, and the object is to provide a removable jacket or casing, which is adapted to be mounted upon a base and receivedin the base, and extending up through the jacket or casing is a cylindrical core, which is capable of being removed after the tile has been sufficiently tamped.
The invention consists of certain other novel features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a view in side elevation Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view; Fig. 3 is a view showing the top plate applied to the mold Fig. 4 is a View showing the casing in an open position; and Figs. 5 and 6 are details.
A represents the base, which is provided with a downwardly tapering opening in which is received a cylindrical core 2; the end 3 of the core being tapered to conform with the opening 1 in the base portion. Projections 4, 4 are formed on the base portion. A circular jacket 5 is mounted upon the base portion and received within the projections 4, 4, which tend to hold the jacket in position u on the base. Arms 6, 6 extend outward from the casing and rest upon the base.
The jacket is made in two sections, having hinges 7, 7, whereby the sections can be brought together or separated. When the two sections are brought together a lever 8, which is pivotally connected to one section, is adapted to pass over a lug 9 on the other section, the lug 9 passing through an opening 10 in the lever, whereby the two sections are held together. At the top of each section knobs 11, 11 are formed, which are ada ted to support a funnel-shaped member 12, w ich is received around the top of the casing or jacket and the knobs 11 adapted to enter the recess 13 in the funnel-shaped member. The mold is now ready for the cement to be poured into the casing to form the tile. As the cement is poured in it is tamped down by means of the tamp 14, and after the casing has been filled the funnel-shaped member is removed and a top plate 15 is placed over the to of the casing. This plate member is provided with a cylindrical opening 16, which fits around the core 2. Clips 17, 17 are formed on the sides of the top late, which are adapted to engage the kno s 11 for locking the late in position. Handles 18, 18 being formed on the plate for turning the same and for locking and unlocking it in engagement with the knobs 11, 11. After the tile has been sufficiently tamped a bar or the tamp handle is inserted through an opening 20 in the pointed end of the core, whereby the core is withdrawn from the mold. After this 0 eration the top plate is removed and then tffe circular jacket 5 containing the tile is removed from the base and placed in a convenient place for the tile to harden. The lever 8 is then disengaged from the lug 9 permitting the jacket to be removed from the tile leaving the tile to harden and the jacket can be replaced upon the base and used for making another ti e.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided means whereby a tile can be molded in a very simple manner and in which the parts are all capable of being removed Without in any wise injuring the tile and preventing the breaking and chipping of a completed molded tile.
It is evident that slight changes might be made in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construction herein set forth, but:
