SEWING-MACHINE GUIDE ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 23, 1908.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RAFAL FRANK, a citizen of Russia, residing at No. 118 Blossom street, Lynn, in the county of Essex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sewing Machine Guide Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
The objects of my invention are, first, to provide means for guiding material which is being stitched on a sewing-machine, so as to insure that the stitching shall be absolutely straight; second, to provide a guide, adjustable 111 its nature, and adaptable for use when any given width between rows of stitching, or between one row and the edge of the article being stitched, is desired.
With these objects in view, the invention comprises the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as more fully appearing hereafter.

Referring, now, to the drawings in detail: A indicates a sewing-machine presser-bar. Adapted for reciprocably-slidable movement through the head a of said presser-bar is a rod B, having, preferably, at one end thereof, a head formed as a plate I), desirably integral with the rod B and set at rightangles thereto and constructed with a rear flange 6 The rod B is adapted to be locked to the presser-bar A, against movement, in any adjusted position, by a set-screw a carried by said head a and screwed therethrough so as to bear against the rod B. Bearing against the exterior face of said plate 6 is a head 0 of a guide-arm C, formed, at its outer end, with a substantially horizontal top flange or lip 0 which lies over and bears upon the edge of the article being stitched, thus facilitating the guiding of said article. This lip forms an important feature of my invention, as I have found it to be very efficient in operation for the purpose stated. The inner, vertical face 0 of said guide-arm also bears against the edge of the article being stitched, as the latter passes under the presser-bar A, thus guiding the article. said head 0 and screwed into a screw-socket b in the plate Z) serves to lock the guide-arm C to said rod B.
The function of the flange Z2 against which the rear side edge of the head 0 bears, is to prevent possibility of any rotary movement of the guide-arm C about the stem of the set-screw c as a pivot. In this respect, the flange b is very advantageous, and I regard this element as one of the distinguishing features of my invention, going to make up the ultimate perfection of the whole.
The function of the head I) of the rod B is to present a broad bearing-surface 6 A set-screw 0* projecting through against which the head 0 of the guide-arm C bears, when the parts are assembled, thus assisting in preventing any lost motion.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
In a guide-attachment for use in connection with sewing-machine presser-ba-rs, a reciprocably-slidable rod having, at one end and disposed at right angles thereto, an integral plate, presenting a broad bearing surface, said plate being provided with a flange extending vertically along the rear edge thereof, presenting an additional bearing surface, and a guide-arm carried by the plate-end of said rod and provided with a head bearing against the bearing-surface of said rod-plate and against said flange.
