To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRED Moss, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Manhattan, New York city, New York county, New York State, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Cop-Envelops, of which the f0 lowing is a specification.

My invention relates to cop envelops and the like, and particularlyto a cop envelop, which protects the cop from dirt and injury, at the same time providing abrake for the thread when drawn off the cop, so that the thread may be used, and when broken off by the user, it will nevertheless stay in place with an end projecting from the envelop ready to be seized.

One of the objects of my invention is to provide an envelop for cops and the like comprising a body portion, the sides of which, near the mouth of the envelop conform to the nose of the cop, together with means for clamping the lips of the mouth together, so as to provide a brake for the thread.

Another more particular object of my invention is to provlde an envelop for cops and the like with a metallic fastener adapted to fit over the lips of the mouth so as to clamp them together to form a brake.

Another object of my invention is to provide a metallic removable perforated fastener for the mouth of the envelop containing the cop tube, which in its preferred form consists of a pair of clips united by a perforated bridge, the perforation in the bridge serving to uide the thread out of the envelop.

With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the parts, improvements and combinations more fully set forth hereinafter.

Referring now to the drawings, which are attached to the specification and form a part thereof: Figure 1 is a view showing the cop tube in the envelop. Fig. 2 is a side view of the envelop containing the cop tube. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail with parts broken away to illustrate the constructlon of the mouth of the envelop. Fig. 4 is a horizontal transverse section through the lips of the mouth of the envelop, showing the thread in the guideway. Flg. 5 is a plan view of the blank forming the perforated fastener before it is bent and clamped about the mouth of the envelop. Fig. 6 shows the fastener when bent into shape.

The envelop 1 for the cop tube is provided With a front 2, a back 3, together with side Wings 4, 5. The side wings unite the front and back, and are adapted to be folded inwardly at the mouth of the envelop so as to form

Suitable means are provided for clamping the lips of the mouth of the envelop together, thus forming a brake for the thread when leaving the guideway. In the particular embodiment of the invention illustrated, I provide a metallic fastener 13 for accomplishing this result. This fastener may be a single fastener, provided with an orifice but I prefer the form illustrated, in which the fastener consists of a pair of clips 14, 15, united by a bridge 16, in which is provided the perforation 17. 20, 21 in the fastener secure the fastener to the mouth of the envelop. The thread passes through the perforation 17, and after the thread has been inserted through the perforation 17 and the fastener clamped in place, an efficient brake, as well as a guide and wear plate are provided through which the thread may be drawn. When broken off by the user, the end of the thread will stay in place, with the end rojecting ready to be seized. The bra ring action results partly from the pressure ap-' plied at the mouth of the envelop, part y from the fact that the thread is guided in contact with the walls of the mouth of the envelop, which conform in shape to the nose of the cop.

Having thus described my invention, it Will be obvious that changes may be made in carrying it into effect, without departing from the principle thereof.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patentis:

1. An envelop for cops and the like, comprising a body portion, the sides of which near the mouth of the envelop conform to the nose of the cop and means for clamping the lips of the mouth together, so as to provide a brake for the thread when drawn off said cop.

2. An envelop for cops and the like comprising a body portion, the sides of which near the mouth of the envelop conform to the nose of the cop, and a metallicfastener adapted to fit over the lips of the mouth so as to clamp them together to form a brake for the thread when drawn off said cop.

3. An envelop for cops and the like comprising a body portion, the sides of which near the mouth of the envelop conform to the nose of the cop and a perforated, removable, metallic fastener adapted to fit over the lips of the mouth so as to clamp them together to form a brake for the thread when drawn off said cop.

4:. An envelop for cops and the like comprising a front and back, side wings uniting said front and back, said wings adapted to be folded inwardly at the mouth of the en velop on fold lines, which fold lines form a narrow guideway for the thread, the front and back of the envelop completing the guideway, and means for clamping the lips of the mouth of the envelop together to form a brake for the thread when passing through the guideway.

5. An envelop for cops and the like comprising a front and back, side wings uniting said front and back, said wings adapted to be folded inwardly at the mouth of the envelop on fold lines, which fold lines form a narrow guideway for the thread, the front and back of the envelop completing the guideway, and a metallic fastener for clamping the lips of the mouth of the envelop together to form a brake for the thread when passing through the guideway.

6. An envelop for cops and the like comprising a front and back, side wings uniting said front and back, said Wings adapted to be folded inwardly at the mouth of the envelop on fold lines, which fold lines form a narrow guideway for the thread, the front and back of the envelop completing the the guideway, the perforation serving to guide said thread out of said envelop.

7. An envelop for cops and the like comprising a front and back, side wings uniting said front and back, said wings adapted to be folded inwardly at the mouth of the envelop on fold lines, which fold lines form a narrow guideway for the thread, the front and back of the envelop completing the guideway, and amctallie removable fastener comprising two clips and a perforated bridge between the clips, said fastener serving to clamp the mouth of the envelop together to form a brake, and also to guide the thread out of said envelop.

8. An envelop for cops and the like comprising a body portion provided with a mouth and a fastener for clamping the lips of the mouth together so as to provide a brake for the thread when drawn off said cop, said fastener being perforated, the perforation guiding the thread out of said envelop.
