lrptiic iion filed January 11, i909. Serial No. 471,700.
Specification of Letters Patent.
lfatented June 1, i909.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that we, MELVIN Rronnr, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Shrcve, county of WaynaState of Qhio, and
SILAS JACKSON cams; a citizen of the' in the art to which it apperta ns to make and usethe same.
This invention relates to theconstruction' of a combined hood andharige r for sliding doors. 1 ll One of the objects of the inlvention is the production of a combined hanger and hocd capable of being made in sections and arranged to slidably support aldoor upon a rain protected track secured tn the hood.
With this and other objectsi in View, the invention consists of certain nbvel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more frilly described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I isa front elevation of our improved com bined hood and hanger; and'Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof.
In the accompanying drawings, numeral 1 designates a hood which is rovided With'a' depending outwardly bent ange 2 adapted to cover the'upper edge of the door. The hood 1 is also formed with an u jiwardly projecting flange 3 which is adapted to be sccured to a door frame in any suitable man ner. On the inner side of the depending flange 2 a track 4 which is substantially U-shaped in cross section is secured thereto by means of rivets 5. A brace 6 is secured by a rivet 7 at itsjupper end to the upper end oi the vertical flange 3 and extends for a portion of its length at an oblique angle and is connected at its lower end to the depending flange 2 by the rivets 7 and is constructed wide enough so as'to overia and connect with a second duplicate section of the hood.
The track 4 is adapted to receive a wheel-'8' which is rotatably mounted in a U-shaped Wheel hanger arm, 9, formed with a curved end, 10. The curved end 10 is connected by means of a link 11 with a hanger I2 having depending spaced legs 13 which are adapted to straddle a door 14 in the customary way.
In order to prevent the link 11 from wabbling on the hanger 12, said hanger is formed with a groove 15 forming a seat for said link 'IVhen rain or rubbish falls upon the .hood 1 which is formcd with a slight incline, said rain. or rubbish will ride theredepending flange 2 without in any way contacting with the upper edge of the door thereby protecting said door and the hanger from becoming injured in any way.
From the-foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will'be' readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to Without-departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claim. I
Having thus described and ascertained the nature of our invention, What we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
formed with vertically arranged and d epending flanges substantially parallel, said depending flange having its lower end bent outwardly, a track secured to the inner side of the depending flange above the lower edge thereof, a brace secured to the vertical and depending flanges diagonally above the hood and adapted to overhang the vertical ends of said. flanges to connect adjoining sections, and a door movably mounted on the track and overlapped by the depending flange.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
