IMPROVEMENT IN PICKS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whoml it may concern:
Be it known that I, NATHAN ROSE, of Belmont, in the county of Allegany, and State of New York, have. invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,`and exact description thereof, reference 4being had t0 the. accompanyingdrawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part ofthis specification, andin which- Figure l represents a perspective of the holder;
Figure 2, a perspective, with the pick removed;
Figure 3, a perspective, with the clamp opened;
Figure 4,'a perspective, showing one side of the holder;
Figure 5, aperspective, showing the other side of the holder;
Figure, a perspective'of the clamp; and
Figure 7, a perspectiveof the holder, with the pick and clamp removed.

My invention relates to improvements in pickholders, and to this end v It consists in the method vof adjusting and supporting the end of the pick in the holder, so that every blow upon the piek tightens the same in the holder; all of which will hereinafter be fully set forth.
To enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertainsto make and use the same, I will now describe its construction and operation. y

By this arrangement any sized pick can be used with the holder described; and, also, the more the pick is used the. firmer it is held in theholder.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi 1f The holder A, constructed as described, and provided -with the hinged clamp D, substantially in the manner and for thc purpose described.
2. A pick-holder, consisting'of the holder A, provided with mortises b b b' and pick E, all constructed,
arranged, and operating substantially in the manner Y and for the purpose specified.
