ROBERT C. DAVIE, OF WOONSOOKET, RHODE ISLAND.
ADJUSTABLE CURTAIN-HANGING FIXTURE.
Patented June 1, 1909.
Serial No. 450,035.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT C. DAVIE, residing at I/Voonsocket, in. the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and Improved Adjustable Curtain-Hanging Fixture, of which the following is a specification.
This invention, which relates generally to curtain and window shade fixtures, more particularly has for its object to provide a simple, easily arranged and inexpensive adjustable fixture for hanging curtains and it comprehends generally an improved arrangement of a base bracket, a hanger slidably mounted on the base bracket and locking devices that cooperate with the bracket and the sliding member for positively holding the said member to its adjusted positions, the said parts having such relative connection that no set screws and the like are required for holding the parts to their adjusted positions, and which, when once ut up, need not be removed or disconnected or attaching the curtain rollers.
In its subordinate features, this invention consists in certain details of construction and peculiar combination of parts, all of which will be hereinafter fully explained, specifically pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which:
Figure 1, is a perspective view of my invention and showing the manner of its use. Fig. 2, is a similar view of one of the adjustable hanger brackets, and the cooperating base bracket and locking devices. Fig. 3, is a like view showing the opposite side of said parts. Fig. 4, is a longitudinal section of the same, taken substantially on the line 44 on Fig. 2. Fig. 5, is a cross section thereof on the line 55 on Fig. 4.
In the practical application of my invention, the main or basebracket A and the sliding or hanger bracket member B, are stamped up or otherwise formed of metal, the member A comprising a central or bridge portion a that extends from the apertured ears aa, which in applying my fixture for use are permanently secured to the window casing by screws as clearly shown in Fig. 4, by reference to which and to Fig. 5, it will be also noticed the central or bridge portion a is in a lane sufiiciently forward of the cars a to al ow for a free play of the sliding hanger and the locking member, presently referred to. The portion a has a longitudinal slot (1,
that extends nearly its full length, the side walls of which are in the nature of inwardly projected flanges a that are formed with ratchet teeth a the reason for which will presently appear, and the outer edges of the said member a are bent over to form. guide grooves a as best shown in Fig. 5.
The hanger brackets B, which have the usual roller spindle aperture and notch, in my construction have foot portions 6 that slide on the bracket A with their opposite edges in the guide grooves a and the said foot portion I) of the brackets has a transverse slot b for the shank c of the locking device that consists of'aT shaped stud O, the cross member or head 0 of which is of suflicient length to straddle and engage the ratchet flanges on the bracket A as clearly shown in Fig. 5. The shank c is flat for freely passing through the slot b and the said shank extends beyond the bracket member a and is riveted or other- Wise secured to a thumb head 0 between which and the member a is located a coiled spring E that encircles the shank c and serves to normally lock the cross member a in engagement with the ratchet teeth.
From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the complete construction and manner in which my form of curtain fixture is used and its advantages, will be readily apparent.
To set the bracket B, it is only necessary to take hold of the head 0 push it down sufiiciently to release the member 0 from the ratchet teeth, which leaves the hanger B free to be moved in the direction desired, since the shank 0 moves freely in the slot a of the member a and when the hanger bracket B has been set to the desired point it will be automatically locked to such position by simply releasing the head 0.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a curtain fixture of the character described, the combination with the main bracket having a longitudinal slot, and the opposite edges thereof formed with inwardly extended flanges having ratchet teeth, the slot being transversely extended at the opposite ends, said main bracket also having longitudinal guide grooves on the outer face at the opposite edges; of a hanger bracket having a foot portion slidable on the main bracket with its opposite edges engaging the longitudinal guides on the main bracket, a T-bolt slidably mounted on the bracket foot portion and having its cross member arranged to straddle and engage the ratchet teeth on the main bracket, and a finger piece on the shank end of the T-bolt and a spring for normally forcing the cross member of the T-bolt into engagement with the ratchet teeth.
2. The combination with the main bracket, having a central or bridge portion formed With a longitudinal slot, and having inwardly extended flanges at the side Walls of the slot formed with ratchet teeth and having longitudinal guide grooves at the opposite edges; of a hanger bracket having a foot portion that slides on the said bridge portion of the main bracket, the opposite edges of the said foot portion engaging the grooves in the said main bracket, said foot portion also having a transverse slot, a T bolt having its cross member arranged to straddle and engage the v ratchet teeth on the main bracket, its shank to slide freely through the slots in the bridge portion and the hanger foot member, a linger piece in the outer end of the shank and a coiled spring mounted on the shank between the finger piece and. the foot portion.
