Application filed October 22, 1908. Serial No. 459,002. I
To cll whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE F. WrLsox and CHARLns' I; WILsoN, citizens of the United States, residing at Savannah, in the '.-have invented certain new and useful Improve'ments in Ironing-Boards; and we do ereby declare the .following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as ,will enableothers skilled in the art {to-which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanylng 'drawlngs, and to the'ngures of reference marked thereon, which'form a part of this specification.
This invention pertains to a new and use- 1 ful ironin'g board and the invention in its fundamental principles has for its object to"; provide a device of this character which is sim 1e and efficient in construction and excee ingly practical in the application.
ings.
A further object of the-invention is to pro-.
vide a deviceiof this design, whereby it may 7 be easily andeffectively attached to a table,
as shown clearly in the accol-npanying draw- A further object is to provide .a new and novel supporting leg for the roning board and which, when manipulated, actuates a new and nvel locking member between; which and the said ironing board the table is firmly'clamped, as will be clearly manifest.
, board applied thereto.
The invention comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangei ments of parts which will be hereinafter more 1 fully described, shown in the accompanying E drawings and the novel features thereof will be ointed out in the appended claim.
. o obtain a full andcorrect understanding of the details of construction, combination of 1 features, elements and advantages, reference is to be had to the hereinafter set forth de- 5 'scription and the accompanying drawings in connection therewith, wherein? Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a table, showing the improved ironing Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a portion of a table also showing the ironing board applied thereto and clearly illustrating the manner in which the ironing board is clamped or lockedto the table. Fi g. 3 is a bottom plan view-o the ironing board showing the locking member and the leg supporting member lying adj acentthc under face 0f;the ironing b'oard. Fig. 4 is a detail per Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 25,11909.
g wherein similar reference characters indicate county of Andrew and State of Missouri,
corresponding parts in the several illustrations, by numerals, 1 designates asuitable table, to which the ironing board 2 is ap lied, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the raw 1: lngs.
board are hinges 3 between the portions 4 of which a clampingmember 5 is pivoted upon the pin 6, as shown clearly in Figs. 2 and '3 of the drawings. Between the end 7 of the clamping member 5 and the end S of the ironing board, the table 1 is clamped, as will be observed upon referring to Figs. 1 and 2. The. end 10 of the clamping member is rovided with a'reduced portion 11, whic is pivoted b tween the arms 12 ofa bifurcated portion 13 of a leg supporting member 14, as 1 clearly shown in Figs. 2 and3. l 'It will be seen, upon referring to Fig. '2 r f the drawings, that the leg supporting 1nember 14 is disposed in parallel relation to the legs of the table so asto cause the ends 13 of the arms 12 to have a'cam action upon the under face of the ironing board so as to throw thereby securely clamping the top of the table, as will be clearly evident upon referring to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings.
The leaf portions 4 of the hinges 3 are lunged to the plates 16, which together with the portions 4 compose the said hinges 3, which plates 16 are secured to the under face of the ironing board by suitable screws 1.7, as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
From the foregoing, it will be notedthat a simple and novel ironing board is afforded member is afforded, which, when manipulated for supporting the ironing ates a locking member between which and the ironing board the table is clamped.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim to be new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In combination with an ironing board, hinge plates fastened to the under surface thercof,.parallel to each other and spaced a art, hinge'leaves one hinged to each of said and which may be easily and quicklyapplied to a table and having means whereby the table is securely clamped. lit will be further noted that a new and novel leg supporting board, actup ates and havinga contracted end, a-clam'p the end 7 of the locking member upward,
ing bar to which said contracted ends of the In testimony whereof we hereunto affix leaves are pivotally'connected, a leg having oursignatures in the presence of two wit- 1-;)
pivotal connections with one end of said bar i nesses.
