ART OF CASTING- HOLLOW STRUCTURE S IN PERMANENT MOLDS.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDGAR ALAN (JUsTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Art of Casting Hollow Structures in Permanent Molds Having Permanent Cores,
. of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to the art of casting bath-tubs, urinals, bowls and various other hollow structures in a sectional permanent mold, whereof one section thereof forms the permanent core; and in such connection it relates particularly to pouring and chillingmolten metal swiftly to the point of setting to form homogeneous hollow metal structures, removing the mold-section and finally the cast homogeneous hollow structure, to permit then, if required, the enamel' broken section, of a permanent sectional mold having'a permanent sectional core for casting therein a bath-tub or the like. Fig. 2, is a transverse sectional View on the line a, as, of Fig. 1 and Fig. 3, is a sectional view, in detail of a temporary sand core for use in a permanent sectional mold having a permanent metal core, as part of the same, when castings or structures are to be provided with lugs or projections, the said sand core is so arrange as to be set into the sectional permanent mold for enabling the lugs or rojections with the main casting produce to be removed therewith.

The mold sections are offset in one part to form when the two sections of the mold are united a, receptacle 0', to receive sand or other molding material, for use, in instances where the hollow article or structure to be cast is to be provided with lugs or projections and this arrangement enables such a casting so provided with lugs'or projections to be freed from the mold, with the main portion of the structure cast and as an integral part thereof. The wall of the part b, of the mold 4, may be provided, as shown in Fig. 2, with tubular openings for assing a fluid therethrough, for water coo ing, the same. In the form of the mold, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, the art or section a, in the making of bowls, bat -tubs or the like, really is in fact the permanent core of the metal.

Having thus described the nature and object of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The art of casting hollow metal structures, which consists in chilling swiftly molten metal to the point of setting within a permanent sectional metal mold in which one section thereof is the core of the mold and then cooling through the freeing of the mold section from the cast structure.
2. The art of casting hollow metal structures, which consists in chilling swiftly molten metal to the oint of setting within a permanent sectiona mold in which one section is the cooled metal core of the mold, hastenin coolin of the structure cast to fix the esta lished homogeneity of the said structure by freeing the mold section from the coresection and finally, removing the cast struc-, ture.
