Description

J. B. LEE. FIRST AID PAQKAGE. AYPLIOATION nun 0016,1908,
922,435, Patented m 18, 1909; I
WITNESSES INVE NTOR ATTORNEYS JOHN ELLWOOD LEE, OF GNSHOHOCKEN, PENNSYLVANIA.
FIRST-AID PACKAGE.
Application filed. October 6, 1908.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN ELLwoon LEE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in Conshohocken, in the county of Montgomery and State of lPennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful improvement in First-Aid Packages, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to first aid )aekages and particularly to hermetically sealed packages adapted for field use and intended to be carried in the pocket.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view partially broken away of a package embodying my invention Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same showing the cup shaped body parts; and Fig. 8 is a broken perspective of the sealing band.
The package which forms the subject of my invention is intended to be carried by a soldier or other party in the field, and is especially formed to be carried in the pocket. It comprises two body portions A and B of substantially similar dimensions drawn up by dies from sheet metal into a flattened cup shape with edges slightly oflset to form depressed flanges C, adapted to receive the sealing band D. The sealing band D, lying within the depressed flanges C is flush with the surfaces of the parts A and B and presents no rough edge to tear or injure the cloth in the pocket in which the package is carried. The rounded ends and edges oi the cup shaped parts A and B have the same purpose of protecting the cloth of the pocket against injury. The part A is provided with a depression E adaptedto receive the ring E which is secured to one end of the sealing 1 band and by means of which the latter may be torn from the package when the latter is to be opened for use. After the package has Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 18, 1909.
Serial No. 456,393.
been sealed by the application of the band D, which is soldered in place, the entire package is water proofed by dipping the same in a suitable waterproofing aint G.
The package describe is well adapted to be carried in the pocket, having rounded corners and no projecting members or edges, and being of sheet metal will stand hard usage without injury. The parts A and B being seamless may be readily and thoroughly sterilized. The sealing band being readily torn completely ofi severs the parts A and B and the bandages inside are rendered readily accessible by removing one of the parts.
The package above described maybe modified in detail without departing from my in vention and I do not limit myself to the exact structure shown.
I claim as my invention:
An hermetically sealed first aid package designed to be carried in the pocket, comprising seamless flattened cup shaped parts drawn up from sheet metal, having their closed ends rounded to present a smooth eX- terior to the pocket and the opposed edges of their open ends inwardly oflset to receive a sealing band, said ofli'set flanges approaching each other; in combination with a sealing band lying in said flanges flush with the outer surface of said cup shaped parts and means flush with said surface for ripping open said band, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN ELLWOOD LEE.
