Abstract

527,155. Packages. ROSE, A. G., and ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. April 1, 1939, No. 10208. [Class 94 (i)] Relates to a package of the kind formed by wrapping a blank of paper, foil, or similar material about an article, such as a charge of tobacco or a batch of medicinal tablets, into tubular form with portions 12, 13, Fig. 2, of the blank adjacent the two edges overlapping on the top of the packet. According to the invention, a rectangular blank 1, Fig. 1, has two sets of perforations 2, 3 lying parallel with the longer sides and separated by a distance slightly less than the length of the finished package, the outer ends of the perforations 2 being joined by a slit 6. When the package is completed, by apparatus of the kind described in Specification 419,950 for example, the edge 7 near the slit 6 lies under the edge 8, as shown in Fig. 2. The package can be closed by a seal and inserted in a tin box 21, Fig. 5. The package is opened by tearing the top flap 13 along the perforations 3, and then tearing the inner portion 12 from the slit 6 'along the perforations 2. The contents of the package are exposed but the structure of the package is not destroyed. In a modification, the perforations 3 are joined by a line of perforations parallel with the edge 8, so that a part of the top flap is removed when the package is opened.
