SAND-PUMYIN G- PLANT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 18, 1909.
Original application filed September 25. 1906, Serial No. 336,646. Divided and this application filed Julv To all whom if ma concern:
Bo it known that l, :\lARll." Swix'rnu, a
hcrcinalti-r set forth, pointod out in my,
claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a plan of tho complctc apparatus or plant, in so far it relates to gathering, elevating and washing: sand.
This invcntion is illustrated and (lesoribod in an application for licttcrs Patent iilcd by me September 25, 1906, scrially numbcrcd 336,646, and is divided out of such application.
In the construction of the apparatus as shown, a scow Q is moored in a strcani or body of water covering a bed or natural drposit of sand, and a pump-house 51 is (iitll'ltll on said scow. A pump 52 is carr ed by tho scow within the house .51 and is driven by any dvsircd. power, in this instance by an en ginc'in thc puinp-housc fed by steam through a. pipe 53 from a boiler or boilers in house 54 on tbc HllOi'l of tho stream or body of water. A rccciving pipe 55 made in scciions i'lcxibly connected by joints 5f: issup ported on scows 57, 5S and 59. ()no and ol thc plpv 55 conu'nnnicntcs with the pump 52,
and the oppositc cud oi said pipe is iittcd with a suction nozzlc or Inouth which is conncotcd by a cable fo a drum (not shown} in the pump-house 51. The outermost sociion of tho pipe 55 and the nozzlv or suction.
iouth thcrcon may be raised and iowcrcd bya cable 61 to adapt said mouth to tho bod ovcr which it is dcsig'nud to work. A dclivery pipe 62 leads from tho pump 52 to a point of discharge on the shore of tho siri-ain or body of water, and said dclivcry pipe is made in sections flcxibly conncctcd by joints 63. Thu dclivory pipe 625 may be suitabiy supported latcrall of the pump-wow15!).
The soow 59 is at achcd to a cable 54, and said cable is rovc through she-arm (S5, (in 1 3 in support said ipe, means to adjust the altitudc of sai suction nozzle connected to the longitudinally rcinovcd from the snow 50 and is adapted to be connected to a drum {not Serial No. 445.420,
shown) in tho pumpdmnsc. By moans of tho llllli' (i l tho 5!? may in movcd in an orl il rclntivo to tho pump, and tho MUWS 57, 5% Illlli'l with it undci tho inilucncc of the r ccirins: pipc 55 supportvd thorcon.
in pra tical uso, the sand and water can lw pumped from the lH'll of a stream or body of water through the mouth (50, pipe 55,
pump 52 and pipc 62, and be delivered on tho land or in any desired rcccptaclc mountod thcrcon llilhcr of the sections of the pipo 5f) may bc removed and the scow 59 be locaiod nonrcr to thc scow 50 for the initial operations of pumping sand adjacent to the lnticr snow, and as rho dcposit of sand is exhauslcd, suction after scc1 ion maybe supplicd to tho pipe. 55, and the snows 57,-58, 0r multipli-s ihcr of, be furnished for the support of such sections, 'in this manner providing for tho removal of sandovcr a large area. 'lhc excavations made by rcinovin sand from a zivon arca are allowed to fil with other sand brought down by the current oi the strcani or drifted into the excavations by agitation of the body of water during the time cniploycd to remove. tho deposits of sand from othcr and more ntensive areas, nfic'r which the first arca may again be worlu' d.
1 claim as my invention l. in a smul-pumping plant, a inoored soon, a pump carried thercl'iy, a delivery pipe loading from said pump, a series of spaced scou's, a roccix'iug' pipo extending across said owns and supporicd by tho hittor, a llcxiblc cornicction botu'i-cn one cud of said receiving ripe and said pump, an 0nd, scow cxtcnding beyond the othor scows and bearing the outcr end of said rucvi'viugg pipe, a suction nozzle flexibly conncctod to said outcr end of said rocciviug pipe and cxlruding along the length of said cnd scow, cable conncctions from said suction nozzle to said first named soon, and cable connections from the ends of said cud scow to said. iirst-nalnvd scow to cm able said cud HM'HS' to be moved.
3. In u snudquunping plant, a lnoorod sc-ou having a pump {hm-con, a discharge pipc loading from said pump, a rccciving pipe bonncclrd to said pump and having a suction nozzle flexibly mum-rind to its outer end at an outdo [bore-I o, a won in support sold Suct ou uomlc and :1, scrics of independent snows IOU ilU
latter from the firstmznned soon, and menus controlled from said first-named seow to enable the position of the suetion nozzle to be adjusted.
3. In asand- Jumping plant, it boiler house located on lend adjacent a body of \YtttOl', a seow moored on the Miter udjnrt-nt to said boiler-house, a power-house on said .seow, an engine in said powephouse, steeni-pipes eoneonneeted, it suetion nozzle on the extremity of the receiving pipe, means for supporting the receiving pipe, it bCUW supporting the suetion nozzle, and cables connected to said suction nozzle and to the seow supporting said nozzle, and also eonneoted toseid engine,
whereb the nozzle not; be raised and low neeting the boiler-house with the engine, it
pump in said power-house adopted to be driven by said engine, :1 delivery pipe leading from saidv pump to the land, said delivery pipe formed of sections flexibly eonneeted, u reeeivn'ig pipe leading from sind pump over the water and formed of sections flexibly ered and the llUZZlt5-5ltPPUItlllg 500W may be moved eireulnl'ereututll x of the power-house seow.
Signed by me at Des Monies, Iowa, thi. sixth du of December, 1907.
