FIREPROOF MAGAZINE FOR PICTURE-FILMS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May I 1, 1f, 09.
Application filed September 14, 1907. Serial No. 892,909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, 'inADnEUs A. NOLAN, a citizen of the United Ststes,:residing in Cincinnati, county of Hamilton, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in i ire iroof Fagszincs for Picture-films, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference hein' had to the accompanying drawing" forming art of the specification.
The ii 111 for 'moving .icture machines is usually mounted on :1 rec suitably journziled, so as to feed the picture film at n rapid and constant rate of s eed to the machine. This ing'ly fragile. The film also is highly inflammable, and under the concentrated rays from the lantern, it very readily takes fire,
t is the purpose of my invention to pro-. vide :1. magazine for the film, which shall ,r vent the destruction of the film, whic is mounted on the reel, should the exposed )ortion take fire, and in which magazine the lilm shall be maintained in moist condition, so as to stren 'then and render it more plicide, and less like ly to become damaged, or de stroyed, in passing through the machine, at i the some time that the iilm itself is rendered to prevent ignition of the film.
In the drawings Figure]. is n )crspective new of my improved fire prooi magazine open Fig. 2 is a similar view of the mage- Z n closed, and Fig. 3 is a central horizontal scetionpf the magazine.
1 is a. metal box or case, provided with the hinged flanged lid 2 to close down over the sides of the case.
3 is the reel, upon which the picture film is mounted, iournaled on the spindle 4, which has its hearing in the bottom of the case on one side, and in the clip 5 secured to the lid 2, arranged to engage the opposite end of the spindle when the lid is closed. 5
The interior of the case outside the periphcry of the reel is rovided with a wire gauze partition 6, whic completely encircles the reel, or when the reel 1s of a size to coml the corners of the recpletely fill the case,
are provided with. the
taingulsr compartment wire gauze partitions. The spaces be end the partitions are provided with hinge l1(lS 7-7, whichare referebly flanged to come down over the ed e of the wi' 3 gauze, and 88 are catches or holding the lids shut. VVit-hin the space formed b these partitions at the corners of thebox, piece sponges or other absorbent material 15, properly dinnpcncd with water to hide the atmosphere within the case when the lid is closed with moisture.
' For the delivery of the film from the case, I provide a slott-d opening in one of the side walls at 9, and in this opening are mounted metnl rollers l010, between which the film is passed. These rollers 10 completely fill up the opening in the case and the space between the rollers, while wide enough to permit of the ready delivery of the film between the rollers, is so narrow, and the heat is so rapidly conducted away, that the flame from the film, which may have been accidentally ignited outside the case, cannot advnncc within the case.
11 is n holder to which the case is secured 2L1; the buck, and by which the magazine is secured to the frame of the moving picture machine.
12 is a clasp for'locking the lid shut,
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as. new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A magazine for moving picture films, comprising a metal case with a hinged lid ther for, a reel for the picture films journalcd therein, on openin for the passage of the film, with metal rol ers mounted to close said opening, and between which rollers the films puss, end a separate compartment with a wire gauze partition surrounding said reel within said case with dampened absorbent material therein to render the atmos here moist within the case, when the lid is 0 used.
