J. B. GORRELL. LAWN SPRINKLER. APPLICATION II-LED NOV. 23 1908.
Patnted May 4, 1909.

JOHN B. GORRELI I, OF KENDALLVILLE, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HIRAM V.
GORRELL, OF KENDALLVILLE, INDIANA.
LAWN-SPRINKLER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 4, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN B. GORRELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kens dallville, in the county of Noble and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lawn-Sprinklers; and I do declare the followin to be a .full, clear, and exact description 0 the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in lawn sprinklers and of that type adapted to produce a circular water spray.
One of the objects of the invention is the production of a simple lawn sprinkler having a base portion adapted to receive a stream of water through a cone-shaped inlet provided with a cone-shaped support arranged on the base adapted to roduce a spiral movement to the water. w on said water is flowing through the base portion and to produce a spray of the Water.
I In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved sprinkler, Fig. 2 is-a horizontal sectional view, thereof, and Fi 3 is a vertical sectional view.
In t e accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 designates a base portion which is formed with a centrally disposed upstanding cone-shaped lug or deflector 2, a circular flange 3 and a tangentially disposed nipple 4 having internal screw threads formed thereon. The nipple 4 communicates by a coneshaped opening 5 with the chamber 6 and a cone-shaped outlet member 7 is formed or screwed on to the circular flange 3, said support or outlet member being provided with an exhaust port 8.
In the operation of the device, the water entering through the cone-shaped opening 5 will contact at 9 with the inner surface of the flange 3 and be given a rotary motion by said flange and a s iral motion by the conesha ed lug or de ector 2, which spiral motion wi be intensified as the water passes upwardly in the cone-shaped sup ort or outlet member 7 and esca es througii the exhaust port 8, the cone-s aped outlet member 7 tending to concentrate the spirallyrotating particles of the water so that when said water escapes from the outlet member it will be distributed over a Wide area in a very fine spray or mist.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A water sprinkler comprising a base portion having a circular flange formed thereon, a centrally disposed cone-shaped deflector arranged on the base portion from within the circular flange, a cone-shaped outlet member arranged on the base portion and a nipple having a cone-shaped inlet communicating with the interior of the circular flange and the outlet member.
2. A water sprinkler comprising a base portion formed with a centrally disposed cone-shaped deflector and a circular flange arranged around the deflector having an inlet nipple with a cone-shaped inlet communicating therewith, said nipple being tangentially disposed on the circular flange, and a cone-shaped outlet member arranged on the circular flange.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.-
defined in the appended JOHN B. -GORRELI Witnesses:
PAUL KLINKENBEY, GUSTAV P. SPRANDEL.
