Description

ilnted -iat'es R.I R. FOOTE, OF CHICA-GO,'I LLINOIS.
Letters Patent No. 92,029, dated Jurre 29, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN' SPRAY-DAMPENER.
The Echedule referredv to in these Letters Patent and making-part bf the same.
To all .whom it may concern:
.Be it known that I, E. R. FOOTE, of Chicago, in the county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a Spray-Dampener, for tobacco, and other purposes; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operatign ofthe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and letters marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my invention.
Figure 2, atop view ofthe same.
Figure 3, a perspective representation of the end of thehlow-pipe.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple, cheap, and convenient device for sprinkling tobacco, clothes, flowers, and for other purposes, where the fluid is to he divided into very fine particles, and spread evenly'on the surface; and
lts nature consists in the use of a small vessel for holding the uid, which has a pipecommunicating with its interior, and extending a short distance above the -top to a blow-pipe, having a peculiar construction, ashereiuafter described.
,To enable-,others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I have marked corresponding parts with similar letters, and will now give a detailed descrip'- tion.
A represents-.a small vessel, made of sheet-metal,A
or other suitable material, and it has an opening in its top,'for the convenience 4of filling the vessel with fluid, and a stopper, H, iig. 2, for closing the opening;
and it also has. a small pipe, B, communicating with' the inside, as shown at'g 1, and extending a short distance above the top ofthe vvessel to a pipe, O.
`This pipe isl held in position by a standard, D, rigidly attached to the pipe and the top ofthe vessel, and a brace, I, which is so adjusted as to bring the periphery of the pipe a little below the top end of the pipe B, as clearly shown at iig. 1.
The small end of the. pipe has a noveleonstruetion, as shown at g. 3; and it consists of two Wings, b b, formed by cutting a'notch in the end of the pipe, and then turning the wings outwardly, to permit the air to pass out of the pipe O atthe opposite sides of the pipe -B, as weil as at its top. This construction is necessary. Otherwise, the apparatus will not operate.
Operation.
The vessel A can be filled with iluid, .bymeans of the'opening above described, and then closed by the stopper H, after which the nozzle E should be placed over the mouth, and'a strong current of l air forced through the pipe C, which operation will cause the water in the vessel A to discharge from the outer end of the pipe B in a continuous flow of spray or 4ue particles,
Having thus described my invention, y
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the pipe O, when provided with the wings b b, with the pipe B, substantially as and for the purpose herein described.
Witnesses: R. R. FOOTE.
