To all whom 'it may concern.' l
Be it known that I, WILLmM II.' WMD, e citizen of the United States of America, residing et Rice, in the county of Benton and State of Minnesota, have invented new end useful Improvements in Streiners, owhich the following is u svecilicetion.
This invention reletes'to streiners designed more perticulerly for 'straining milk, end one 1o ofthe principal objects of the seme is to provides. strainer, the parts of which ere readily detachable for cleaning purposes.
Another' object of the invention is to provide e. strainer in which cheese cloth or other retieuleted fabric muy be used es the strainint;I element und thus permit the seme to loe readily cleaned after use, the perts of the strainer being also detachable for cleaning the seme.
Stili another object of the invention is to provide :t strainer in which the milk will he required to pass through u number of screening elements of different degrees of lineness.
These and other objects ma y be attained by ineens of the construction illustrated in theeccompnnying drewng, in which,
CiU
Referring to the drewing, the numeral 1 -designetes the outer cesing of' the streiner provided with inclined wells 2 end o. reduced outlet portion 3. Fitted into the upper Iend of the casing 1 is e supporting ring 4 pro- "vided with en offset shoulder 5 which beers ugeinst the upper edge of the easing 1 when in pince. The ring 4 is removable from the cesing 1, end secured inside seid ring,r is :t to straining element, the outer edge oi. which is turnedupwerdl to form e lienge which lits snugly Within t 1e, ring,` 4 und rests upon the top oi the shoulder 5. lltrorn the llenge ti the bottoni 7 of the straining element is inclined end provided with e. series el' o )enings 8 which mey be covered with e suite. le reticuleted febr-ic 9. At the inner edge of the well 7 en upwardly extending annuler ilunge 1() is provided. Within this llenge is a. hollow 5o cylindrical element 11. provided with e series of openings 12, seid element being open et its opposite ends und of eq unl diameter from end to end. A. )ieee of. cheese cloth or other reticulated leliric 1.3 is placed around the ele- Speceeton of Letters Potent.
Patented April 27, 1.909.
Application led December 1o, 196e. Serial No. A167,874.
ment 1,1, end this fabric is held in place by means of a. clamping ring'M et the upper end. The lower end of the element 11 is seated in en annuler strainer support 15 havin en up turned ienge 16 et its upper end W ich inclosesv the reticuleted fabric und holds it iirmly in piece. Within the strainer support 15 is e strainer ring 17 provided with e reticw lated fabric bottom 18, seid element heving en enlarged upper end 1.9 which rests within the support 15, end seid ring 17 being provided with n suitable handle 20 hy ineens of which it 'may be removed and detachedfroni the strainer. Secured to the lower end of the su i )ort 15 is e. piece of reticuleted fabric 21 held in place by means of the outlet ortion 3 of the casing 1. At the lower end o the cssing 1 u piece of reticulated fabric .22 is secured by ineens of uclemping ring 23.
'lhe operation of my invention muv be briefly' described as f0lloivs:--'l`he milk is poured into the easing 1 outside the flange 10, the milk passing down through the openings 8 und from the chamber a, pussin inward through the openings 12, end 2reni. thence down through the streiner members 18,'21 endf22. Any milk which muy be poured into the center portion would he required to poss through the reticuleted element 13, end thence down through the strainer-L After the straining operation, ell the parts ofthe strainer may be detached, end the fubric used may he thoroughly wshed for reusing. i
From the foregoing it will be obvious that e strainer inode in accordance with my invention will thoroughly struin the milk, und that thestreiner moy be rendi!` teken eport for' cleaning, the retlouleted tu ric straining elements being quickly cleansed und ready for reuse.
