Description
iillniml $133195 sten 1 diminu- Letters Patent .No 91,976, dated June 29, 1869.-
IMPROVEMENT IN rocxs'r-srnnnoscorn.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it kuowntlmt I, Tnoius'D. Srmoxrox, of St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey, and State of Minnesotu, have invented a new and useful Improvement in locket stereoscopes; and I do hereby declare that the following is at full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the szune, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in stereoscopic instruments, whereby they are made much more convenient and useful than they have hitherto been; and
It consists in constructing the instrument without a. case or box, and of two pieces only; that is, of the lens-piece, and view-holder or slide, so that the in-r strumeut may be curried in the vest-pocket, and be made at slight expense.
In the accompanying hawing- Figure 1 represents at sectional View of the iustruthe usual ulzuiner.
D 1) represent slots in the lower edge, of suit-able size for receiving one of the card-views, as seen in fi' 1.
-E represents one of the card-views, which, in this arrangement, is used instead. of a. box or case.
1* is the slide and view-holder, which is also provided with two slots, G and H, for receiving the cordview, with slots in its ends, zts'indicateil by the dotted lines in fig. 2,,zmd seen in fig. 1, at "i, for holding the card or picture J, as seen in fi 1.
The focal distance is obtained, in the usual manner, by moving the slide.
This simple arrangement answers all the purposes of the ordinary expensive and cumbersome instrument now in use. \Vhen folded, as seen in fig. 2, (the two parts are held together by dowel-pius,) it is very little larger than a, common pocket-comb.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The pocket-stereoscope, consisting of the lens-piece .A, having. the slots 1) 1), or their equivalents, and the slide and view-holder F, having the slots G H, or their equivalents, all constructed as described, and
nil-opted to be applied to the cord E, substantially as herein set forth, for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed my name, in the presence of two witness'es.
' THOMAS D. SIMONTON.
