Description
J. s. THURMAN. DANDRUFF RBMOVING DEVICE. APPLICATION PILBDJULY 10, 1907 Patented Apr. 20,1909.
I- i W 27a/za? Liveyaz 7ozv d'.
JOHN s. THURMAN,'0F sr. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
I :DANnnUrF-BEMO'VING DEVICE.
To all 'it may con-cern: i n
Be it known that i, JOHN s. 'raciti-miie citizen of the United States, and resident vof,
St. Louis, Missouri, have invented' certain newl and useful` Improvements in Dandruff- Removing Devices, of which the followin inafter more fuilllf u ingdrawinga in which :f- #Figure'yl is a plan view of my im roved is a specification containing a'full, clear, an
exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a Cpart hereof. My invention relates to a dand-ru remov'- ing device, my object bein to provide asimple implement connected. y a flexible tube to a vacuum pump, or tank, and'which implement is provided with a brush which is a plied to the hair and scalp to remove t e dandruif, and which latter is immediately drawn into and through the handle of the vdevice and thelvacuum tube.
To the above pur oses,"`my inventioncon-lt sistsin certain nove features of construction and arrangement of parts, which will be hereset forth, pointed-fout in the claims, and strated in the accompany-4 "'device, 2 is a vertical section ta 'en on theline 2 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. S1-is a horizontal section .taken` on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2,L
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawingsz--l designates a hollow circular head, constructed preferably of hard rubber, or analogous material,`the bottom of which head is o en; and the lower edge thereofv being flare outwardly, asindicated by 2, and adapted to receive' an annular casing or ring of rubber 3.
'Formed integral with the under side of thev top of the head 1, and depending therefrom,
is a block 4; and formed integral with one' side of the head is a tubular handle 5, to the end of which is detachably connected a 'dexible tube 6, such4 as a hose which leads'to a vacuum pump or tank, or other device, lfor creating suction.
Detachably secured to the under side of the block 4 by screws 7, or in any suitable manner, is a circular plate 8, the diameter of which is slightlyless than the internal diameter of the hollow head 1, thus providing a continuous circular slot 9 between the inner face of thehollow head 1 and the edge of said plate 8; and formed integral with the edge of this plate isv a depending flange 10, on the inside of which is formed an undercut groove 11.' f
Specification of Letters Painent.` Application sied July i9, 1907. `serial No. 384,633.'
' Patented Apriiao, 1909.
l l2 designates a iiexiblev disk of rubber, or
analogous material, the 'edge of which is seated in the undercut groove 1 1', and carried by this disk 12 is a series of bristles 13, of
'wir-ej hard rubber; or4 analogous material. `The disk l12 isof such size as that when it is seatedagainst the .under side of the plate 8 vvit assumes a 'convex form, with the ends df 'the outer series of bristles lying .immediately adjacent the lower edge of the ring or casing 3. Whenmy improved implement is in use,
manipulated as to loosen the scales of dandruif', which'latter areimmediately drawn into, andthrough the circular slot 9, and from thence into and through the tubular handle ,54, and the vacuum hose 6. The disk 1 2, is made pliable in order that the bristles will notJ in'ure the scalp when applied theresto, but wil readily give .when being mani ulated on the scalp; andthe device .in a dition to loosening and removing scales of dandruH and dustfrom the scalp, will mildly mas,- sage the scalp, thus drawing the blood to the the handle 5is manually engaged, and thel bristles 12 are applied to the scalp and so surface o r-capillary veins, which tends to increase the circulation, thereby inducing a more r pid and prolific growth of hair. Ilclaimz* A1. In a device of the class described, a hollow member through which suction is produced, a iiexible brush back arranged on said hollow member, and bristles secured to said flexible Vbrush back and projecting through the opening in the hollow member in such a manner as to form an annular inlet opening lwhich extends entirely around the brush.
2. Ina device of'the class described, a hol low member through which a suction is roduced, there being an .opening into said ollow member, a casing on said hollow member around the opening,'-and a HeXible brush carried by the hollow member and projecting through the opening. 3. In a device of the class'described, a hollow member through'y which suction is producedfthere being an .opening into Said hollow member, a- .ciroular casing-around said opening, a circular plate arranged in the opening-so as to forma circular slot between the edge of the plate 2Aand the wall of the hollow member, and' 'aliexible brush dctachably secured to the under side of the plate.
.4. In a device'of the character described, a head providedwith a chamber, there being a restricted annular opening leadingiinto said low member in which is formed an opening, a flexible ring around said opening, and a flexible brush carried by the hollow member and arranged Within the ring.
6. A dandrul removing device comprising A a hollow member, in which is formed an an- 5. In a devieelof the class described, a holl nular inlet opening, and a brush having a lexble back detachably secured to the member Within the annular inlet opening.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my 15 name to this specification, in presence of two subsorlbmg Witnesses.
JOHN S. THURMAN.
