Be it `kno'wn that we, NICHOLAs- KOHL and FRANK I. Jorcn, citizens of the United States, and residents of Dayton, county oi Montgomery, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improyements in Hydraulic Jacks, of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication.
Our invention relates to im roveinents in hydraulic jacks more particu desi 'ned for high tonnages, in whichordilifting head is necessarily slow, and the purpose of our inventionsis to provide a construction in which the ram may be4 moved rapidly up to the load automaticallyand without the necessity nso ' cylinder 6, to the of any levers. Having thus described our invention, what l We claim as new and desire to secure by Let'- ters Patent, is:
1. a jack of the class described provided witha ram, pump rod and pump, an auxiliary plunger fmounted loosely on the pump rod in the ram cylinder, and fixed stopson the pump rod to engage the plunger, acting on opposite sides of the plunger, with passages throughv thev plunger of different size, and means for closing automatically the larger passageway during the down stroke of the pump rod, to bring the auxiliary plunger into action. f 2. In al jack of the class described, providedwith a ram, pump rod and pump, an auxiliary plunger mounted loosely on the pump rod mv the ram cylinder, with means on the pump rod to engage the plunger acting on opposite sides the eof, passageways through the plunger o'f did rentsize, one passageway of a size to permit ready circulation of the pump liquid and the-otheradapted to impede the circulation, with means for automatically closing the larver passage way during the down stroke of the pump rod, as and for the purpose described.
