JAMES W. CHENEY AND BROWN INGALLS, OF'SHELBYVILLE,
. ILLINOIS.
Letter-s .Patent No. 91,715,`da ted .Teme 22, 1869.
' INIPROVEMENT IN CHURN-IDASIl'zIIEiRS.v
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lame.
To all whom it mtl/y conce/rn:
Be it known that we, JAMES W. CHENEY vandY ers; and do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification. i
The nature of our invention consists in the construetion and general arrangement of a churn-dasher, as will be hereinafter fully set forth. f
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains, to make and use the same, we will now proceed. to describeits construction and operation, referring t0 the 4annexed drawings', in which- Figure 1 is a plan view;
Figure 2, a side elevation; "and Figure 3, a vertical section.
A represents a vertical shaft, to the lower end of which are secured three circular perforated plates, B B B", placed a suitable distance apart.
Ihe holes or perforatious iu these plates are situ-1 ated diagonally over each other, which arrangement tends to completely separate the cream and form butter.
Each circular plate, toward the top, is smaller in diameter than the one immediately below, thereby allowing an easy return of the cream to the bottom of the churn on raising the .dashen and, at the same time, churning very eiectively both in lowering and raising the dash.
Between the circular plates B and B', and between Band B", are placed two movable perpendicular perforated flashers C C, which move in and out, to and from the centre, in grooves on the circular plates.
The object of these perpendicular dashers is to gather the butter together afterV it has formed, by
turning the dash to the right or left.
They also add strength to the whole dashcr, and can be moved out from the centre, so as to make the dash fit a jar or churn.
We do not confine ourselves to any certain number of circular plates on the central shaft A, as any number desired may, of course, be placed on the shaft.
Having thus fully described our invention, l
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the vertical shaft A, circular perforated plates B B B", and movable perpendicular dashers C C, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing, we have hereunto set our hands, this 14th day of' April,1869.
