To all whom it may conce/rn Beit known that I, ROBERT-Hanna uson, of Thomaston, in the county'ofLitchfield, and State of Oonnecti cut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Chucks for IronfPlaners; and I do hereby declare that 1 the following is a full,A clear', and exact description of the s ame, reference V being liadtoi'the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, and in which-- 11 i Figure l representsl a vertical section of a chuck, constructed according to my invention; and

The object of this invention is to provide for the more convenient holding of such articles requiring to be planed` as have bevelled sides.
Referring to the accompanying drawings- A represents a ehuck, of ordinary construction, 4to which areapplie'd parallels B B.
Said parallels B B may be made to constitute the lregular fixed and movable parallel jaws of the chuck,
them, as may be desired.
` They are substantially the same as those heretofore used for the holding of square surfaces, except that in addition thereto they are'formed with suitable recesses or. may he supplemental' thereto, and `used between therein for reception of adjustable jaws G C, with which l they are provided.
' These jaws are of such forms in their transverse sections as are represented in fig, 1. i
They are each so fitted within the said recesses of -their respective parallels B B as to be susceptible of Van oscillatory or partially-revolving motion, the points n :a: being vtheir. respective axial centres of motion, and
are retained in place therein by means of concentric arc-formed ears, @upon their extremities, which tit within correspondingly-formed portions of the-said recesses.
For varying their degrees of Obliquity, the said jaws are operated by threaded bolts or screws D D, -which are made to pass through the said parallels B B, and connect with said jaws by means of ball-and-socket joints, as shown, so thatthe screwing in or out of the said bolts or screwsD D will vary the -positions of the' faces of said jaws relatively to the face of the chuck. What 'I claim as my invention, and desire to have secured by Letters Patent, is-
vThe -operatiugr-screw D, combined with the parallel B and the adjustable jaw C, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
